Two pictures from Taco’s birthday party that have nothing to do with my post….
Today, on my way to refill Taco’s lyme disease prescription, I got a message from Reese’s school saying that she had thrown up in class. Wait a minute! She was sick with the stomach virus LAST week. I told the nurse that I would come as soon as I was done getting the Rx. Unfortunately, there was some miscommunication between the pharmacy and the doctor’s office, and there was no amoxicillan for us. So I turned around and headed to school.
So many thoughts were going through my mind….Yes, I thought, “Poor Reese–it’s never fun getting sick, especially when other people are around and you’re not at home….” But I also had thoughts like, “This is going to mess up another week! This is my afternoon to get errands done without kids! This isn’t fair! My sister is supposed to come visit tomorrow. Darn!”
Reese was asleep when I got to the nurse’s office, and the poor thing STUNK. I loaded her in the car, picked up Apple from my friend’s house, and drove home. First thing to do at home was give her a bath. I should have waited. A few minutes into the bath, she got sick again. She told me that she didn’t want to get cold when she threw up in the toilet, so she just threw up in the tub full of water. Well, guess what? She got to be cold for the 15 minutes that it took me to drain and scoop-clean the bathtub. Yuck!!
She got sick a few more times this afternoon and evening, but she kept a bucket close by those times. Boy, is it easier to clean out a bucket than a bath tub….or carpet….or the couch….or 10 billion loads of laundry (I know, because that’s what I was doing last week). Sometime in the middle of our FHE Church Taboo game, she perked up and seemed to be feeling a lot better. Phew!
After FHE, I got the kids ready for bed. I gathered the kids in Noodle, Reese, and Apple’s room for prayer. After prayer, I reached for the door only to find it locked. From the outside. In other words, all 6 of us were locked in the room. My first thought was,”What if Reese throws up again and we’re stuck in here?!” Apple has a thing about locking doors, and we were having a problem with him locking himself IN the room, which is why we switched the door knob around (so WE would be in control. HAHA!) Did I mention that PB was not home? Usually we have a screwdriver above the door frame just in case, but tonight we couldn’t find anything except a wire coat hanger. It took me a little while, but I was able to get us out! Yeah! The last time that happened, when Kiwi was 4, I had a phone with me and called a neighbor who had a key to come over and rescue us.
So there you go. That was my afternoon and evening. Sorry I rambled on so long. Now tomorrow, I get to spend the whole day couped up with a sick kid, so that the rest of us can get plenty of exposure to the germs. :)
