I’m sorry your donuts came out dry! It’s possible that it could have been an issue with humidity or altitude (I’m in a humid state, for instance). I’ve made these several times in the past and it always worked out for me, so I’m not sure why yours were so dry and dense. They’re definitely a thicker/heavier cake-like donut versus the light fried donuts you get at the donut shop.

I think there is way too much flour in your recipe-2 cups flour for 10 doughnuts. Made mine come out extremely dry and dense.

Sorry you didn’t enjoy them! I’ve never tried an electric donut maker, so I can’t speak to how that would change the recipe, but I wouldn’t imagine that it would change it all that much. When I have made these, they were definitely dense but very moist and spongy, and I am a big fan of the glaze…but I guess everyone has their own taste! :)

They were rather tough and dense, which could have been due to using an electric donut maker, although I’ve never had any problems before modifying oven baked donut recipes. While the browned butter glaze was tasty, it completely overwhelmed the blueberry flavor and seemed at odds with it.

I just got a basic donut pan at Target. Nothing special, and under $10. Totally worth it!
