Hi Marv, I have the 70-200mm f/4L and I use it hand held all the time. I wouldn’t recommend it for indoors, but outdoors it takes fantastic pictures…without a tripod!

Ok..at the moment I do not do weddings. I do portraits (babies on up), I do photo shoots of a kid or kids running, playing, jumping in some field. I am commissioned to shoot landscape, buildings, horses, dogs (a lot of dogs) sometimes stationary, as a dog can be, or moving. I might shoot outdoor sports, not often. I have been known to shoot theater plays with just stage light available. I pretty much use a canon 24 – 105 to do all of this. I want a 70 – 200 and I really want a 2.8. I do not use a tripod as I started out a street photographer and love hand held shooting (better control) SO??????? can I get a 2.8 NON IS someone help me….Please!!!

Probably I should call myself a new born in photography. Although not my profession but just a part time hobby of mine. I would certainly want to develop on this and turn around my interest in it to something more, soon. For now I have a question which I thought should be best answered by professionals.
I have been asked to take pictures / cover an event- an Indian classical musical performance soon. It’s a closed door auditorium. It will be low light is what I can imagine and certainly will want to avoid any flashes.
What I have? Nikon D 600 +Nikkor 24-85mm f3.5-4.5 + Nikkor 70-300 mm f/4.5-5.6.
With the above instruments please advise the best approach I should have on the event. Remember it’s something for the 1st time and I am excited to show my talent.

I want to use a flash bracket attached to my D80. Do I need a hot shoe type sync cord? How do I get flash and camera to talk to each other?

I’ve been using Flickr for YEARS, but their lack of back-ups scare me so I’ve thought more lately about using SmugMug. It’s good to hear you like it!

I think we talked about this in the discussion, but just in case, I highly recommend the Canon Rebel series (they are always adding new models!). That’s where I started, back when I was using film, and I still recommend them.
