]]>I love making my own bath and beauty products, not only for my own benefit, but to give as gifts to friends and family. I use my DIY sugar scrubs every single day in the shower (they are amazing for cleaning and moisturizing my face, and my homemade sugar scrub makes the best shaving “cream” ever!).
My youngest son, even though he’s 11 now, still prefers taking baths, and I admit that I do love a nice relaxing bath (especially when I’ve got the house to myself and I can relax and soak for as long as I’d like!). There’s nothing more soothing that a hot bath and a fizzing bath bomb.
This week, I made some peppermint bath bombs, and because they holidays are coming up soon, I decided to form them in some fun and festive clear ball ornaments. Not only do the pop-together ornament balls make an ideal mold for bath bombs, but the ornaments themselves make an adorable gift “package.”
If you’ve never made fizzy bath bombs before, here’s what you need to know: when baking soda and citric acid are mixed together and then added to water, a chemical reaction occurs. As the bath bomb dissolves, the reaction between the baking soda, citric acid, and water creates carbon dioxide, which results in lots of bubbles. Those bubbles not only make the water feel fizzy, but they release the soothing scent of the peppermint essential oils into the air, too.
Peppermint is not only one of my favorite scents of the holidays, but it is one of my favorite scents year-round. I especially love peppermint essential oils for soothing a headache or helping clear or calm my sinuses, which is a constant problem for me during the winter months. If peppermint is not your thing, or you’d just like to shake things up a bit and make a different scent, you can use any essential oils or leave them out altogether.
Recommended: for an even more festive scent, try Candy Cane essential oil blend, which combines peppermint, lavender, orange, and vanilla. It’s heavenly!

]]>A few weeks ago, I ran out of the homemade sugar scrub that I use almost daily when I shower, so I knew that I needed to make a new batch. Since pumpkin spice is everywhere this time of year, I thought it would be fun to see if I could make a sugar scrub that smelled like my favorite scent of the fall.
Note: affiliate links are used to point you to the products that I used that you may not have around the house already. No extra cost for you, as always!
I have fallen in love with this pumpkin spice sugar scrub! It’s so quick and easy to make, it makes my skin feel incredible, it’s full of simple, natural ingredients, and it’s a frugal but useful DIY gift to give to friends and family. What’s not to love?
It’s pumpkin spice and everything nice (and none of the bad stuff!) – I love making my own bath and beauty products out of simple and wholesome ingredients. Sugar scrubs really are so easy to make and they feel so wonderfully refreshing!
Here’s how to make this pumpkin spice sugar scrub:

Instructions

]]>During the hot summer months or the cold and harsh winter months, our lips take a beating from sun, wind or sand, and they could use a little natural pampering.
Use this homemade Cinnamon Lip Scrub at least 2 to 3 times a week to keep your lips soft and smooth. Make up a batch for yourself or several to give away!
Note: affiliate links are included to make it easier for you to find the products needed that aren’t already in your pantry.
While you can make your lip scrub in any flavor or scent, using your favorite essential oils, I like to use cinnamon because it is a “hot” essential oil and irritates the upper layer of your thin lip skin, making them appear fuller and plumper temporarily. Plus, cinnamon is one of my favorite flavors.
Make your own lip-plumping Cinnamon Lip Scrub with just 5 simple ingredients and skip the pricey and chemical-filled store version.
Ingredients:
Directions:
While the sugar exfoliates your lips, the coconut oil and Vitamin E heal and moisturize your lips in just a minute of gentle use. Vitamin E acts as a preservative as well and will help keep your DIY beauty recipes naturally preserved while you enjoy them. I find that my lips are so moisturized afterwards that I don’t even need a lipgloss or chapstick.
If you liked this, I know you’ll love these too…

3. Remove from heat and stir in coconut oil, sugar, coconut extract, lime essential oil, and lime zest; stir to combine well.
4. Quickly pour into mold; stir gently with a toothpick to remove air bubbles.

]]>Thanks for stopping by today! I’m excited to be sharing this Pinterest Remake of a delicious flourless banana oatmeal muffins recipe. You are going to LOVE them!
We go through bananas like crazy.
I’m talking about dozens of bananas a week, people. Crazy.
I use a banana in my smoothie almost every morning, my husband slices one over his cereal every day (usually twice) and my 15-year-old son eats at least one banana as a snack every day. It’s hard to keep up with the banana demand these days.
But every once in a while, a few of our bananas are around long enough to start turning a little brown, and then nobody will touch them. Until I make them into banana bread, of course.
I’ve made the same old banana bread for years. Not that there’s anything wrong with my banana bread recipe. It’s actually quite delicious.
I’ve never had complaints. That’s for sure.
But sometimes change is good.
So I searched on Pinterest for a banana muffin option that was a little bit healthier, and I was intrigued by this pin. I followed the pin to a recipe on NateandRachael.com.
I wanted to customize the recipe in a few ways. I knew that I wanted to add nuts to the banana muffins. And I knew that some of my family members would only eat them if they had chocolate chips. I also had a good stash of fresh blueberries in the fridge, so I was curious to see how those would taste mixed in. But I didn’t want everything in every muffin or I knew nobody would eat them.
It was a mix party, I tell you!
These muffins were SO good!
Don’t expect something with the same taste and texture as traditional banana bread. Because there is no flour in these muffins, the texture is more moist and dense. But we all loved them!
Are you ready for the recipe?
Not only am I going to show you how EASY these gluten-free muffins are, but I’ve got a BONUS for you of a ton of other fantastic Pinterest remakes.
Don’t you always wonder if those recipes and projects you see on Pinterest are as good as they look? I know I do!

]]>Looking for a paint stick craft for St. Patrick’s Day? It’s your LUCKY day!
Way back in December, a friend of mine gave me a bunch of paint sticks – you know the 12-inch paint stirrers you can get by the handful in the pain section of your local hardware store? She had picked up more than she needed for a craft she was doing for Christmas, and didn’t want to hold on to them any more, so she passed them on to me. It took me 2 months to figure out a project to use them on, and even then I really struggled to figure out how to make something I liked. This project went through several stages, but once I looped my husband into the madness and we were able to brainstorm together it all came together, and I was so happy with how it turned out.
OK, I fear that I’m not going to explain these steps very well, but I assure you – this project is SO easy! It basically consists of painting the sticks, weaving them together with twine and gluing the letters on top of the sticks. Seriously easy (for some reason, writing out the steps made it seem so much more complicated than it is!
Before I start with the steps, I have to tell you the crazy process I went through to figure out how I wanted my final product to look. I tried several different designs (starting out with a wall hanging that was 12 paint sticks tall, drawing a message on one of the sticks with a Sharpie, cutting out a cute shamrock, and more) but it finally came together when my husband and I played around with the supplies that I had on hand.
Here’s what you need to get started (most of these supplies were things we had on hand. PS – I used Amazon affiliate links to link to some of the products below):
Note: It’s important for the design of this project that you use paint stirrers that have the groove on one side (kind of like a handle). The alternating groove helps the twine have somewhere to rest and hold it all together.
Ready to see how you go from this….
…to the finished craft? Continue reading to see the step-by-step instructions (including printable instructions):

]]>Have you tried creating your own homemade bath products yet? You are definitely going to want to give this Chocolate Covered Strawberry Sugar Scrub a try right away, whether you’re a seasoned maker-of-homemade-bath-products or if you’ve never tried it before.
The only thing I love more than creating DIY beauty and body products is making them smell good enough to eat! While I wouldn’t recommend a big spoonful of this, it is much safer than any store bought version, it’s much cheaper to make, and so easy to put together you won’t believe it! Beyond one simple ingredient all you have to do is raid the pantry for a few supplies and you have a wonderful body scrub to keep or gift. Moms, friends, teachers – they will all love this deliciously scented easy spa treatment that they can do in the comfort of their own home.
Homemade sugar scrubs are the perfect way to soften and moisturize your skin in a snap; you can repeat this treatment in the shower several times a week for healthy glowing skin. After you use this chocolate covered strawberry sugar scrub, be sure to add a little whipped chocolate body butter. You’ll love the way your skin feels…and smells!
1 – Scoop out a generous amount onto damp skin, massage in a circular motion, rinse completely away, pat skin dry with a towel.
2 – Sugar scrub will be good stored for several months in an airtight container.
Here’s a simple label you can use for the top of your jar. I’ve included one graphic image, and there are 2 easy ways you can use this. First, save the image to your computer.
Option #1 is to go to Avery Design & Print Online and use their free templates program to print them off on their stickers. Just enter design #22807 in the “start a new project” box and then click go. That will bring you to a page of lots of templates. If you want to use my design, click on the blank white circle (the first “design” there) and click next again. You’ll then see a big “graphing” circle in the middle of the screen. Click on “images” on the left menu and upload this image. Drag it til it fits the entire space provided. Viola! You should see the design populating the entire sheet to the right. You can print them on Avery labels OR you can just print them on any paper. (get the Avery circle labels here)
Option #2 is to open up a word document and insert this image as a file into a blank document. You can add as many as you want on a sheet, dragging to make it your desired size. I would probably opt to print on card stock versus regular printer paper.
If those options sound too complicated, then you can always add a scrap of fabric under the rim of your mason jar or tie a simple ribbon around the lid. Instant present-ready!
