There are so many things I love about the fall – the cooler weather, the kids heading back to school, my birthday, the changing colors, and all things pumpkin and apple and caramel! Oh my! Seriously, fall food is my absolute favorite. I love baked goods, and I swear that fall has the best baked treats of the entire year.

Caramel Apple Croissant Donut at Dunkin' Donuts

I headed to Dunkin’ Donuts this week for a mid-day treat. Sometimes I just need to get away from my desk for a little while, get in the car, and get something to pep me up. I was so excited to find the new Caramel Apple Croissant Donut at the Dunkin’ Donuts around the corner from my house. I LOVE caramel and I love baked apple treats, and the Caramel Apple Croissant Donut is a perfect marriage of the two. Plus, I am a huge fan of the croissant donut. Flaky layers of goodness? Yes, please!

Dunkin’ Donuts is celebrating the return of fall (both the weather and the delicious flavors of fall!) with a bunch of delicious fall-inspired menu items, including the Caramel Apple Croissant Donut – a glazed croissant donut with apple filling, finished with caramel icing drizzle. The Caramel Apple Croissant Donut and other fall menu items are available for a limited time at participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants.

Of course, I couldn’t head to Dunkin’ Donuts without bringing home a dozen donuts to share with the rest of the family. My kids are more traditionalists and always go for original glazed or chocolate and vanilla glazed. I treated them to some fun fall sprinkled donuts and kept the Caramel Apple Croissant Donut for myself.

It was not too sweet, but just sweet enough. It was light and flaky and filled with the most delicious apple filling and covered with a tasty caramel drizzle. I can’t wait to have another one!

Browned butter glazed strawberry donuts recipe: These baked doughnuts are a yummy breakfast that kids and adults will love to share!

We go through a lot of milk in our house. Seven people, many gallons, lots of cups in the dishwasher. Last week, I bought two cartons of TruMoo (one carton of strawberry milk and one of chocolate milk) and they didn’t last long – they were a hit!

I guarded the strawberry milk a little because I wanted to try out a recipe that I had in mind. I pulled out my favorite browned butter glazed spice donuts recipe and crossed my fingers that a few adjustments would work. And OH, they did!

I can’t wait to make these strawberry donuts again!

Author:
Ingredients
  • 1 cup flour
  • ¼ cup + 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup TruMoo strawberry milk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • 1½ tsp butter, melted
  • ¼ cup chopped strawberries

Browned Butter glaze:
  • 4 Tbsp butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp TruMoo strawberry milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Lightly grease doughnut pan.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. In a small bowl, stir together the TruMoo strawberry milk, egg, and butter.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the bowl with the dry ingredients and stir until fully mixed.
  5. Fill the each section of the doughnut pan a little more than ¾ full (I like to put the batter in a large ziploc bag and pipe it into the donut pan) and bake for 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
  6. Cool in the pan on top of the oven for a few minutes before removing. Cool completely on a wire rack.

Prepare the browned butter glaze:
  1. While the doughnuts are cooling, melt 4 Tbsp butter in a small saucepan over low heat until golden brown.
  2. Pour browned butter into a small bowl and add powdered sugar, strawberry milk, and vanilla. Mix with hand beater or fork until smooth (it mixes quickly).
  3. Dip the doughnuts in the glaze and set on a plate until the glaze has set.

This recipe for pumpkin strawberry doughnuts is brought to you by Libby’s. All opinions are 100% mine.

Think pumpkin is just for the Fall and pumpkin pies? Think again!

Think pumpkin is just for the fall and pumpkin pie? Think again! These pumpkin strawberry donuts are perfect all year long. Moist and delicious - good for breakfast or dessert!

Think pumpkin can't be enjoyed year-round? Pumpkin Can! Not only is pumpkin delicious ANY time of the year (for much more than your typical holiday pie) but pumpkin literally is a superfood that can add both deliciousness and nutritional value to sweet AND savory dishes year-round.

I took the Pumpkin Can challenge – are you ready to join me? Keep reading below to find out how #PumpkinCan can help you win a Vitamix Blender as well as provide tons of ideas for using pumpkins in your recipes!

Think pumpkin is just for the fall and pumpkin pie? Think again! These pumpkin strawberry donuts are perfect all year long. Moist and delicious - good for breakfast or dessert!

Here are just a few of the amazing benefits of pumpkin:

  • good source of fiber and a great source of Vitamin A
  • packed with Beta Carotene
  • can reduce the fat in some of your favorite recipes (use it as a replacement for butter, oil, or even eggs!)
  • can be added to jarred or prepared sauces to reduce sodium per serving
  • can be used as a substitute in your favorite recipes to reduce calories

Tip: Leftover pumpkin can be stored in the freezer so it ready whenever you want it. Just freeze scoops of pumpkin puree in an ice cube tray then "pop" them into a freezer bag for later use.

I love baking with Libby’s Pumpkin. In an effort to be creative in the kitchen and think outside the "pumpkin box" I decided to incorporate two favorite flavors – pumpkin and strawberry – into one delicious baked good. Pumpkin is typically eaten in the fall, and strawberry is typically eaten in the summer. How would they taste paired together?

The answer? Better than any of us could have ever imagined!

Ready for the recipe? I will be making these pumpkin-strawberry donuts again and again….and I'm already brainstorming ways I can add pumpkin to some of my favorite savory dishes. (I'm currently itching to try adding a can of Libby’s Pumpkin to my next recipe of BBQ chicken in the crock pot!).

  6. 6 – Melt butter in a small bowl. Mix cinnamon and sugar in another small bowl. Dip or brush both sides of doughnuts in the butter and then the cinnamon sugar mixture, making sure that you cover all of the sides.

This morning I woke up with a craving for blueberry doughnuts. And we had no eggs. Or blueberries.

Probably my definition of a perfect breakfast - freshly baked glazed blueberry doughnuts...or donuts. However you spell it, these taste amazing!

So instead of my regular morning routine, I ran out to the store to get the necessary ingredients and spent all day baking and photo-taking. And eating. And licking my fingers.

I licked my fingers a lot.

I got my donut pan last year around this time and started out with a very simple and incredibly tasty recipe for browned butter glazed spice doughnuts. I have neglected that doughnut pan a little this year, and I am trying to rectify that now. Starting with baked blueberry donuts. It’s a good place to start.

Probably my definition of a perfect breakfast - freshly baked glazed blueberry doughnuts...or donuts. However you spell it, these taste amazing!

I used the browned butter glazed spice doughnuts recipe as a base for these blueberry doughnuts since I already knew that the recipe worked well. And, WOW did the addition of blueberries work well.

Probably my definition of a perfect breakfast - freshly baked glazed blueberry doughnuts...or donuts. However you spell it, these taste amazing!

Ready for the recipe? This makes about 10 doughnuts (although I probably filled my doughnut pan a little more full than needed. Make them a little smaller, and I’m sure you can get a dozen out of this recipe. Personally, I was happy with my big, fluffy, round donuts.
