One of my family’s Spring Break traditions is to spend lots of time together in the kitchen. Spring Break for my kids starts tomorrow (we have a late one this year!) so I’m just barely starting to think about all of our spring traditions.

We love to hard boil and dye eggs, make batches and batches of sugar cookies and bowls full of homemade frosting in a rainbow of pastel colors and then decorate them (and eat them for days!).

Easter Egg Cake Balls Recipe

It’s all about the Easter food!

This year I’m in mourning because our kitchen is STILL only half-functional, and it’s going to be a bigger challenge to make dyed Easter eggs, sugar cookies, or other treats. I’m so excited for the weekend when we’ll be getting together with our friends for a big Easter dinner (and I can use their kitchen to cook all day!).

If you’re luckier than I am this week and have a full-functioning kitchen, these cake ball eggs are not only super cute and festive, but they are beyond delicious, too! Use funfetti cake mix for a fun look inside your cake ball eggs, and mix up the flavors and use yellow cake mix with strawberry frosting. The great thing about this recipe is that there’s so much room for variations in color and flavor!

Easter Egg Cake Balls Recipe

Here’s what you need to start:

  • 12 cupcakes, made from your favorite cake mix or cake recipe (funfetti cake is super fun with this recipe!)
  • 1 container or batch of marshmallow fondant (my daughter loves to make marshmallow fluff fondant. It’s SO easy! Just take a 16 ounce container of marshmallow fluff and mix in 6-8 cups of powdered sugar, about a teaspoon of vanilla, and a few drops of gel food coloring. Knead it in a greased surface with greased hands until it’s smooth!)
  • 1 can of your favorite frosting (again, we like to make our own frosting, but if you want to save a step, then grab a can!)
  • 10-15 drops pink GEL Food Coloring
  • Spoon
  • Knife
  • Rolling Pin
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper or Wax Paper

Easter Egg Cake Balls Recipe

Crumble cupcakes into a large bowl and stir in frosting until completely combined.

Easter Egg Cake Balls Recipe

Form mixture into 12 egg shapes with your hands and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper. Place in the freezer for 10 minutes to set.

Easter Egg Cake Balls Recipe

While cake ball eggs are chilling, grab your fondant. Set aside a small amount of uncolored fondant for the polka dots at the end.

Easter Egg Cake Balls Recipe

Work pink GEL food coloring into larger portion of fondant until the desired color is consistent throughout. Separate fondant into 3 equal-sized pieces, set 2 aside and work with one piece at a time.

Roll one section of fondant flat (about 1/8-inch thickness).

Easter Egg Cake Balls Recipe

Cut rolled out fondant into 4 sections with a sharp knife.

Remove eggs from the freezer and wrap one egg in one of the sections of fondant you just cut.

Easter Egg Cake Balls Recipe

Repeat until all eggs are covered in fondant. Do not try to work the egg too much, just get it covered–the more you handle the fondant, the more sticky it will get.

Easter Egg Cake Balls Recipe

Place eggs into the freezer for another 10 minutes to set. Remove eggs from freezer and make tiny circles with the white fondant you set aside earlier; mash those tiny circles randomly onto the outside of the eggs.

Chill your Easter egg cake balls until ready to serve.

Yield: 12 cake ball eggs

Easter Egg Cake Balls

These Easter egg cake balls are fun to make and delicious to eat. They're the perfect easy Easter recipe that everyone in the family will enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 12 cupcakes, made from your favorite cake
  • 1 container or batch of marshmallow fondant
  • 1 can of your favorite frosting
  • 10-15 drops pink GEL Food Coloring

Instructions

1.    Crumble cupcakes into a large bowl.

2.    Mix cupcake crumbles with frosting until completely combined.

3.    With your hands, form mixture into 12 egg shapes and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper.

4.    Place in the freezer for around 10 minutes to set.

5.    Set aside a small amount of fondant for use at the end.

6.    Work pink GEL food coloring into larger portion of fondant until the desired color is consistent throughout. I like to knead the fondant by hand. It's messy but it works great!

7.    Separate fondant into 3 equal-sized pieces, set 2 aside and work with one piece at a time.

8.    Roll the ¼ section of fondant flat (about ⅛-inch thickness).

9.    Cut into 4 sections with a sharp knife.

10. Remove eggs from the freezer and wrap one egg in one of the quarter sections of fondant you just cut.

11. Repeat until all eggs are covered in fondant. Do not try to work the egg too much, just get it covered--the more you handle the fondant, the more sticky it will get.

12. Place eggs into the freezer for 10 minutes to set.

13. Remove eggs from freezer and make tiny circles with the white fondant you set aside earlier.

14. Mash those tiny circles randomly onto the outside of the eggs.

15. Place eggs back into the freezer until ready to serve. Serve cold.

My kids start Spring Break tomorrow, which means that the next week and a half will be all about sleeping in, baking our favorite Easter treats, and getting ready for an epic Easter egg hunt. In the past, this week of Spring Break has also meant big cousin sleep overs and always ALWAYS lots of food to feed lots of hungry kids and adults.

French Toast Wrapped Sausage Dippers

Basically, this time of year is about food and family (and to go along with my website, a good dose of FUN, too). I love to remind my friends and readers that preparing delicious meals – whether they’re for an ordinary family dinner or a big holiday brunch – doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. Satisfying, family-friendly foods can be basic, using ingredients you are probably already adding to your shopping cart, like Johnsonville breakfast sausage links and bread. Did you know that you can find Johnsonville breakfast sausage in the refrigerated section of your grocery store, next to the bacon? I love that the sausage links are fresh, not frozen, and that I cook them up when I’m ready to eat.

French Toast Wrapped Sausage Dippers

We love cooking hot breakfast foods for breakfast, brunch, and dinner. There’s really no “wrong” time to eat things like sausage and French Toast, right? I love eating my French Toast with a side of sausage, because the sausage cuts the sweet flavor of the French Toast just right. Plus, my kids and I LOVE dipping our sausage links in maple syrup (despite what my mom thinks, sausage is better with syrup!), so they really are the perfect breakfast foods to pair together.

French Toast Wrapped Sausage Dippers

This week, I not only prepared French Toast and Johnsonville sausage links together, but I meshed them into one fantastic crowd-pleasing menu item, perfect for your Spring brunch, breakfast-for-dinner meal, or weekend breakfast.

Have you ever tried wrapping your French Toast around sausage links? This was a first for us, but it won’t be a last! It was a total hit for the kids and adults alike.

French Toast Wrapped Sausage Dippers from Food Fun Family

French Toast Wrapped Sausage Dippers

French Toast Wrapped Sausage Dippers

French Toast Wrapped Sausage Dippers

Ingredients

  • 12 oz package (14-count) Johnsonville breakfast sausage links (any flavor variety)
  • 14 slices of soft, airy bread
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cook sausage links in a large skillet over medium-high heat until cooked through, turning to brown all sides. Remove sausage links from pan and set aside.
  2. In a wide, shallow bowl, beat together eggs, milk, cinnamon and vanilla.
  3. Cut crusts off of each slice of bread so you're left with a crust-less square of bread. Gently press the bread down with the palm of your hand.
  4. Place one sausage link on each slice of bread and roll the bread up around the sausage. Dip each sausage roll in the egg-milk mixture and place in the skillet. Repeat for each piece of bread and sausage link. Note: I used the grease from cooking the sausage, which was still in the pan, but you may opt to wipe out the pan and use butter or vegetable oil to cook the French Toast with. Your choice!
  5. Cook over medium heat, turning to cook all sides, until golden brown.
  6. Serve with syrup for dipping. No utensils necessary!

I get a little giddy when we get close to certain holidays because it means that I get to cook my holiday menu! I do believe that if you asked any member of my family what their favorite holiday food was, they’d probably all give the same answer:

my homemade crescent rolls

Hi guys!

Welcome to SPRING! The weather took a turn back in the direction of winter last week, but I hear that we’re supposed to be feeling much more spring-like by the weekend. I can’t wait! I love the spring. My only complaint is allergies, but honestly I am willing to suffer if I can enjoy the sunshine, the warm without humidity, and the coming of summer!

This week, we’ve pulled together some delicious Easter and spring-inspired desserts. I love how colorful they all are! Here’s a fun Easter cupcake that I made a few years ago:

My feet take a beating during the winter. They get so dry! As we enter spring time, it’s time to pull the sandals back out of the closet and show off our feet again!

Lemon mint foot soak - a DIY beauty product made with all natural ingredients that will make your feet feel amazing and ready for sandal weather!

Whether it’s a long day at work, a full day of shopping, or a backyard soccer game with your kids, there are times we all need a little foot pampering. I’m looking for something that soothes tired feet but is safe to use. It’s even better if it isn’t expensive, right? I have just the thing for you in this Lemon Mint Foot Soak. It softens, moisturizes, and leaves your feet ready for a night of dancing or a day in yoru favorite spring sandals.

How to Make Lemon Mint Foot Soak

Ingredients:

3 cups epsom salts
1 cup baking soda
2 Tablespoon coconut oil
15 drops peppermint essential oil
10 drops lemon essential oil
1 Tablespoon matcha green tea powder (optional)

Lemon mint foot soak - a DIY beauty product made with all natural ingredients that will make your feet feel amazing and ready for sandal weather!

Directions:

1. Soften coconut oil in the microwave for 10 seconds to make it easier to mix.

2. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl until evenly mixed. I used matcha green tea powder to give a little natural color to the foot scrub. You can leave it out if you don’t have any on hand or use a soap colorant to give it a green tint.

3. Transfer your mixture to a large glass jar – I find pretty decorative jars at Dollar Tree and at Hobby Lobby that are perfect for storing DIY beauty recipes like this. Mason jars work well too!

To Use:

1. Scrub vigorously over damp feet, paying special attention to dry areas.

2. Rinse well, pat dry, apply lotion to lock in moisture.
