This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Gorilla Glue Company for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.
This summer has been hot, hot, hot! So when we’re not at the pool, we’re looking for projects that we can work on inside, where we can stay out of the sun and the heat. This week, a few of my kids and I worked on our very first fairy garden. We’ve seen fairy gardens all over Pinterest, but we’ve never made one ourselves. We are hooked!
We gathered lots of supplies and set up our little fairy workshop on the kitchen table, where we created our own fairy garden over a couple of days. Our best tools for making our fairy garden? A pair of scissors and a bottle of Gorilla Super Glue with TWO ways to dispense. I’ve used Gorilla Glue before, but the Gorilla Super Glue Brush & Nozzle was so easy to use and left virtually no mess. I can’t say the same for the rest of the table!
About Gorilla Super Glue Brush & Nozzle: this new package features a fine bristle brush that offers controlled coverage and the precision tip nozzle for quick, easy dispensing. The brush tip was perfect for gluing sticks together to make the fairy house, and the precision tip nozzle was ideal for larger areas, like attaching pebbles to the mason jar lid pond (so that I could act quickly!).
I love that both methods of applying the Gorilla Glue dried fast and held tight. Gorilla glue is perfect for wood, metal, ceramic (but not anything that would go in a dish washer), rubber, leather, paper and some plastics. The brush is ideal for edge to edge coverage and the nozzle is ideal for precision application. I used both applicators for our fairy garden.
The best thing about making your own fairy garden is that the only limitation is your imagination. You can get supplies and at the store or in your own backyard (we did a little of both). Note: Gorilla glue can be purchased at hardware and home center stores nationwide.

Use Gorilla glue brush applicator to apply glue to the tip of a wood bead. Attach a large button on top and hold in place until secure. Draw dots on the top of your button to make mushroom spotted.

]]>I know I am not the only one who has kids that are about to lose their mind waiting for Finding Dory to come out (okay okay, I am just as excited as they are). As a fun pre-treat while waiting for the movie we made up these adorable Finding Dory Fizzing bath bombs.
These Finding Dory bath bombs make a great moisturizing and detoxifying soak for littles ones and would be a fantastic homemade gift or to give out at a Finding Dory themed party!
(Psst…They’re great for mom and dad, too!)

To use: add 3-4 bath bombs to warm bath water and watch them fizz away, leaving behind a yummy scent, a light color, and softened skin.
You can use any essential oil you like to scent these with – lavender for bedtime, orange to wake them up, or peppermint/eucalyptus when they have a cold. If you don’t have essential oils at home, ask me about them. I’m a huge advocate and love to suggest great oils!
PS – be sure to print out my Finding Dory coloring pages and activity sheets and stay tuned for my movie review coming up soon! – Laura

With the recent resurgence of Star Wars mania, my house has not been immune to the force. We ran out to see the newest movie when it came to theaters, we bought the Star Wars shaped food, merchandise, etc… Yet we still can’t get enough, we love them all – Luke, Leia, Chewie… We also love coming up with our own crafts and fun little vignettes.
Succulents are a great plant for terrariums because they require very little care, making them great for children’s rooms.
I took a trip to the Dollar Store-spent $4, plucked succulent cuttings right out of my own yard (or you can pick up some brand new ones at Walmart for a few bucks), and raided my sons Lego collection to create this fun living play space. Frugal, easy, and adorable… terrariums are a great activity to create with your child. We made this one together and he loves having it sit on his dresser among all his other beloved Star Wars items.
Note: I’ve included affiliate links to the supplies on Amazon so they’re super easy for you to find. If you make a purchase from my links, I get a small (and I mean small!) commission, but you pay the same as you normally would. If you don’t already have an Amazon Prime account (which gives you free shipping!) you should totally give it a try!

Enjoy your new Star Wars succulent garden!

Sensory bins are a great way to supplement any themed unit study or simply just for fun. They open up imaginations, extend play, and build up fine motor skills. With a new Star Wars release fresh on the kids minds, I knew that a Star Wars Themed Sensory Bin would be a huge hit! I used mostly items I had on hand already. If you already have Star Wars fans in the house, you will likely need to only pick up one or two items to create a magical box from a galaxy far, far away. Your kids will be busy for hours!
Note: Amazon affiliate links are used to link to some of the items we used!
Let their imaginations take over they will know what to do. But in case you want a few specific ideas here are activities to supplement your Star Wars inspired Sensory Bin.

We are in the process of converting his “baby room” into a Star Wars haven and while I bought some store-bought items, I also wanted to add my own personal touches. So I created some art using just a few craft supplies already had on hand. Note: affiliate links used in post.
You can use the force to whip up these two cute canvasses and add a little Star Wars flair to your child’s room. Using glow in the dark paint gives your art a little glow at night that makes it really special.
Now, I consider myself crafty but I am not at all an artist, so I always try to find the simplest way to create what I have in mind. This is no exception. Anyone can do this – even the kids, with a little help. The hardest part is waiting for the paint to dry between steps.
If you would like to make the second canvas with a quote or your little Jedi’s name:

Make your own, add some delicious holiday scent and a little sparkle to really put it over the top with your kids! Peppermint adds a fresh new aspect to homemade playdough and involves yet another of your child’s senses in on the fun. Set out playdough with rollers, cookie cutters, craft sticks, stamps, etc. to make the fun last even longer and open up their creativity. This would be perfect for winter themed parties, Frozen play time, or anytime for scented play. Note: affiliate links used within this post.

This play dough also makes a great homemade gift idea for any little ones in your life. Put it in a pretty jar and tie on a cookie cutter for a sweet handmade gift they will love.
Homemade playdough is so easy to make, and so fun to play with. Make a few batches and add a few drops of food coloring so you’ve got several different colors for some hands-on indoor winter fun!
Heat, mix and knead…
Add some sparkles…
Squish, roll, shape, and have FUN!

About a week ago, before my oldest daughter left to go back to college after the winter break, she and I broke out all of our crafting supplies, turned on a movie in the kitchen, and crafted together. What a fun way to end our vacation! Since Kim tends to have better ideas than I do, I happily took a few of her ideas and made them my own. This “I love you because…” dry erase frame was the easiest craft of the 3 that I did that night. It takes just a handful of simple supplies and hardly requires any artistic ability (something I often appreciate!). And best of all – it took less than 10 minutes to make!
What message would you leave for someone special in your life?

My 15-year-old daughter inspired me to make this craft after making her own Memory Jar for 2014, and I am so excited to start Memory Jars for the whole family for this coming year. It’s a perfect (and perfectly easy) craft for kids and adults alike. Each person, regardless of age, can decorate their own jar and fill it up according to their ability level.
The idea is simple: in January, the jar is filled with blank strips of paper, but through the year, whenever anything “memorable” happens, you take out a strip of paper, write down the memory, fold the paper up, and stick it back in the jar. Those memories sit, folded up, til the next New Year’s Eve, when you take the folded papers out and read them one by one, reliving the best memories of the past year.
I’ll wager to say that most of those memories would have been forgotten and might have been lost had they not been written down. I love that there is no “right or wrong” way to keep Memory Jars. You can write a memory down daily, weekly, or whenever something truly memorable happens. I’d recommend keeping your Memory Jar on a nightstand or somewhere that will be noticed frequently so that it stays fresh in the mind.
A Memory Jar can be made of anything, really, and memories can be structured however works best for each person. I made my jar a faux stained glass with 2 simple supplies – leftover holiday tissue paper and Mod Podge (which I always have on hand in case of a crafting emergency, of course). Kids will love getting their hands messy and painting with “glue”!
Supplies Needed:
Steps:
1 – Cut your paper strips (these are the strips of paper for writing down your memories, so you want them to be big enough to hold a sentence or two. I’d recommend something around 2×3 inches).

2 – Cut your tissue paper into small squares (there’s no right or wrong way to do this! I’ve seen really cute jars made with circles of tissue paper, which would be so much fun…but harder to cut).

3 – Paint a thin layer of Mod Podge onto your jar.

4 – Carefully place the tissue squares onto the Mod Podge (alternate colors so there’s a nice variety. It’s fine to overlap tissue paper).

5 – Add stickers if desired, then generously paint a layer of Mod Podge over everything. Let Mod Podge dry completely.
After the jar is dry, it’s time to start filling up the jar with memories!
What are some of your best memories of 2014…and what kinds of memories do you hope to fill your jar up with this coming year?

The other night, my daughter and I got together with a group of “crafty ladies” (how Reese described us) to make a few Christmas crafts. Crafting with friends has got to be one of the best ways to spend an evening (especially when that evening also includes home baked goodies). I love making crafts, but I’m not very creative when it comes to figuring out what to do. But give me an idea and some supplies and I’ll go to town.
The first craft that I made during our Christmas craft night was just about as easy as a craft can get. What’s better…it can be customized for any time of year by simply swapping out the scrapbook paper behind the glass.
That’s it! Easy peasy!
Now…can you believe we’re a little over a month away from Christmas? I need much more time than that to get ready!

I’m not the craftiest person out there, but I do love to get creative, especially during the summer when I need to find more ways to keep the kids occupied out of the heat of the summer sun.
This summer, I participated in Skip to My Lou’s Summer Craft Camp for Kids for the 5th year in a row. It’s a challenge for me to come up with something kid-friendly and fun each year, but it’s a challenge I look forward to as we enter summer.
Since my family will be leaving on a very long cross-country road trip in a matter of days, I thought that now would be the perfect time to share this summer’s craft camp project. And since I’m all about the pictures, what better craft than a personalized picture frame?
This easy frame craft is appropriate for multiple ages – just gather a bunch of supplies and let everyone decorate as they desire. Kids may need some help applying Mod Podge evenly.
Step 1: Gather supplies (make sure to cover your work surface when using Mod Podge)
Step 2: If decorating your frame with patterned paper, trace the frame on the back side of the paper you want to use. Carefully cut it out.
Step 3: Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge onto the frame and lay paper down. Press firmly but gently so that paper is flat and no air bubbles appear.
Step 4: Decorate frame with stickers, buttons, ribbons, etc. Buttons can be applied using Mod Podge. Apply an even layer of Mod Podge over the entire frame (front and sides) and let dry for 30 minutes.
Step 5: Apply an additional layer of Mod Podge over the entire frame and let dry.
That’s it! For just a couple of dollars, you can have a fun, homemade memory of all the fun you have this summer. After the summer is over, these frames would be perfect for personalized gifts for parents, teachers, grandparents, and friends. Just match the stickers and decorations to the occasion!
The second frame that I made ended up being my favorite – I found state license plate stickers and placed them all the way around the frame…and then all of the kids begged me to let them have it!
This craft was originally published at Skip to my Lou in June. Check out my previous craft camp projects: How to make a no-sew t-shirt bag, easy crochet headband, picture-to-puzzle craft, and easy paper kites.
