AJ and I had the brilliant idea to take an afternoon walk together before the other kids came home from school today. It was 26 degrees. I think I may prefer the warmth of the house, a cozy blanket, and a mug of hot chocolate…but it was still nice to spend some time with my boy!

My husband began a yearly tradition a few years ago. He spends one weekend in October doing an overnight biking and camping trip with one or more of the kids. This year, he took our 2 youngest kids on the biking adventure along the C&O Canal. While they only biked about 6 miles in and 6 miles back out, they had a blast. I sent them with an old iPod with a camera (I figured that would be lighter and easier to carry along than a camera) and was totally impressed by the pictures they captured on their bike ride.
What a beautiful area we live in and what a gorgeous time of year!
AJ (9) and Reese (11) joined Dad this year on the bike trail. They were so excited about their bike and camping trip. They had been talking about it for days. When the day finally came, they woke up early and rode their bikes around the neighborhood while Dad finished up packing and prepping for the camping trip. I think they’re already counting down the days til their next overnight biking trip!
PS – all of these pictures are unedited, straight from the iPod shots. They kind of make me want to tag along on their next ride…with a camera instead of a bike, of course!

One of our favorite spots this summer was the water park a block away from my parent’s house. We had so much fun there! I don’t have many pictures because I didn’t bring my camera along, but I wanted to make sure to “memorialize” our time there anyway. And now I’m missing summer…
Until the next time, Seven Peaks! What wonderful memories you’ve given us!

We never have been that adventurous…but this summer’s time away has changed that.
On Labor Day, after a few hours of thrilling house cleaning, we drove out to the Potomac River and did a little boating. Other than the fact that the air was stale and muggy and hot, the afternoon and evening were beautiful and the kids had a blast. I’m thinking we need to re-do this day when the weather is a little more pleasant, don’t you think?

I just got back from an afternoon hike along the Billy Goat Trail, next to the Potomac River, with 3 of my kids. Other than the need for ice on my bad knee, it was a wonderful afternoon.
It was an altogether wonderful day That included sleeping in (thanks to a day off school for Rosh Hashanah) and crafting (even though the kids questioned the wisdom of making pumpkins in early September) along with our 2 hour hike.
Forgive the less-than-wonderful photos. The camera I brought along with me wouldn’t recognize the memory card inside it, so I pulled out my phone to catch some views. Phones certainly are handy that way…

]]>My BFF is teaching horse back riding lessons at a local farm, and her kids were in a horse show this weekend. I took my two youngest kids to watch the horses and enjoy the beautiful Spring weather and country surroundings. It was a nearly perfect day (don’t get me started on AJ’s incessant whining for food).
The horses confirmed my preference for non-human photo subjects. They are so much easier to deal with!
