When I started blogging 5 1/2 years ago, there was no prior thought to what I would post each week. If I took the kids berry picking, I posted that. If I had some good news to share, I posted that.
Then things changed. My kids got bigger and went off to school all day. My blog also got bigger and turned from very-part-time hobby to full-time business. I knew that by making the decision to take my blog more seriously meant that I needed to come up with relevant content regularly. And yet I often found myself with a bad case of writer’s block and no idea what to post.
Last year, I decided to take a step towards eliminating the phrase “I don’t know what to blog about!” from usage. I didn’t want to ever run into the situation where I had nothing to blog about.
So, I signed up for the very first session of Content Brew with the fabulous Melissa Culbertson of Momcomm. I wasn’t sure what to expect from 7 days of instruction, but in the end…Melissa changed the way I blog, and I would do it all over again in a heart beat. Over 300 other bloggers have since joined in on the course, and everyone is singing its praises.
What is Content Brew?
The Content Brew course goes through SO much information, including:
- Exactly why you need a content calendar (hint: it won’t stifle your creativity nor your spontaneity)
- How to customize a calendar for your blog
- Why and how you should include social media (specifically, Facebook and Twitter) in your content planning
- Eight questions to ask yourself for more effective content planning
- What types of posts bring in the best traffic
- Techniques for coming up with an endless supply of content ideas
- 23 Content Generation Prompts for Facebook and Twitter
- Attention-grabbing words and phrases to increase engagement
- Tools to save you time and keep you organized
At the end of the course, Melissa promises that you’ll have anywhere from a month to a quarter’s worth of blog content planned out for your blog, Facebook page and Twitter, but the best thing is that you will walk away with a process that you’ll use over and over again. Like I said, it changed the way I blog.
Special Instructor-led Content Brew Goes on SALE 1/22
Signup begins on Tuesday, January 22 at 11 am for the next round of Content Brew, and the course will run from February 4 – 13. Don’t worry about blocking out your entire week – you can work at your own pace, when it works for YOU, and you’ll always have access to the lessons to refer back on as you continue to blog.
What’s so special about this February Content Brew session? Here’s what Melissa has to say: It will be the only instructor-led session of Content Brew this year! I may run a special instructor-led session from time to time, but after this next Content Brew, the course will be re-launched as a self-paced course (date TBD). The cool news about that is no one has to wait! Bloggers can purchase the course, have access to all the lessons at once and work at their own pace!
If you haven’t done the Content Brew course yet, I highly recommend that you do…even if you think you have plenty to blog about. You’ll start 2013 with more direction, more organization, and less stress. And less stress is a good thing.
Note: Though this is not a sponsored post, I’ve used my Content Brew affiliate account within this post. As always, all thoughts included here are my own.

Your timing is absolutely perfect. When I wrote out my business goals for 2013, they included “using an editorial calendar” (which I’ve never tried), promoting my posts more via social media, and increasing engagement with my readers. You’ll hit all of those and more! Can’t wait to get started :)

I need this. I should have looked into what Content Brew was earlier than this because I admire Melissa!

LOVE this idea – amazing how I get spurts where I can plan a month of content and then spend hours stuck weeks later.

It really does help with writer’s block. Just like making dinner every night, the hardest part is coming up with something to cook/write!!

i need to try this, maybe it’ll help with this stinking writers block, too.

Yay! Let me know how it goes! I’m hoping to kind of go through it again on my own as a refresher course. It doesn’t hurt, right? ;)
