I took the kids to the Baltimore Aquarium today. Our season pass expires in a month and I wanted to make it out there at least one last time. We brought some friends with us to add some spice. We had so much fun, despite getting lost on the way out of the city (I really really hate driving in Baltimore, and although I can get There without any issues, I have a terrible time finding my way back to the freeway. Too many one way streets and too few SIGNS pointing you to the freeway.) That was really the only negative. The kids–all 8 of them!–were fabulous, especially considering the 5 plus hours of walking that we did. The parking garage that we ended up at was quite a hike from the Harbor area (did I mention that I don’t like driving in Baltimore….or any big city for that matter!?)
(Oh, and as a disclaimer, I didn’t bring my nice camera today. I figured I’d travel light, and so these pictures are from my water camera, which is great for outdoors and not so great for indoor shots.)
Once we got to the Aquarium, my friend’s twin boys were hungry, and it was lunch time for the rest of us, anyway, so we had a very nice lunch in the cafe near the dolphins, and then hung out in front of the dolphin viewing window for a while.
Before the dolphin show started, we stopped by the Children’s Discovery Center. The kids enjoyed the hands-on shells and one-on-one discussion with Aquarium employees so much that I literally had to drag them away. They wanted to stay!
The dolphin show was great, as usual, despite Apple’s restlessness at this stage of the day.
We passed quickly through the majority of the fish exhibits so that we could get up to the Rain Forest. We saw lots of birds, a sloth, and a tarantula (I think that’s the first thing the kids mentioned to Dale tonight…. “We saw a real live tarantula!!”) No pictures of the tarantula-just me and Apple.
I loved these next guys. I swear they were performing for the on-lookers. Oh, how I wish I had brought my good camera!
Outside, on out way back to the cars, we stopped by a few ships….
And a canon….
And finally, an anchor for some pictures. I was amazed at the kids’ energy after such a long day. And hardly any complaints! It was a great day, but I’m ready to stay home for a few days to recoup. :-)
