After sleeping in this morning (Wow! What I feeling! I sure needed it!) and a few hours of cleaning up the house, we packed a picnic and headed up to Cunningham Falls. We used to go up there a lot….back when Taco was a baby and before. We haven’t been back in years. I was shocked how much the lake had changed. I had a picture in my mind of a tiny beach with a curb at the water’s edge (I have pictures of the girls sitting on a curb with their feet dangling in the water). After playing for about an hour, I found the concrete curb, half-way up the beach, mostly buried in sand. I guess we haven’t had much water in the last 7 years. :(
We were planning on hiking up to the Falls, but we got stuck at the lake. Nobody wanted to leave, even though we hadn’t exactly packed for a day at the beach. Everybody was happy to improvise. The weather was gorgeous (low 80s and cloudy). Peanut Butter took a nap on the grass while the kids played and I took pictures.
Reese was upset at first that she didn’t have her suit (Taco, Apple, and Kiwi happened to have brought theirs, and she was mad that I hadn’t packed hers. Oops!) The lack of swimming clothes was soon forgotten. She had a great time running and splashing in her shorts and t-shirt.
Strange picture to include, I know…..We have had these old metal army trucks for as long as I can remember, and I always knew that they had been PB’s. But today I found out that they were handed down to PB from his Mom’s cousin, who is approximately 60 years old. So these cars that our kids are playing with are probably 50 years old, at least! I was a little bit “more” worried when Reese was burying the truck in the sand and letting it float in the lake after finding out it’s history.
Reese’s blow-up dolphin happened to be in the back of the van, so we blew it up for her. I have about 15 adorable pictures of her trying to stay afloat on her dolphin floaty.
Apple was happy to fill up his personal pool (using Noodle’s water shoe, since we didn’t have buckets) UNTIL he saw the dolphin…..
Reese was totally willing to share the dolphin with Apple, but Apple wanted it all to himself.
I never knew until today that dolphins make the same sound as airplanes when they swim. Cool!
After kind of drying off and playing at the park, I insisted on a family picture or two. I had a hard time getting everyone to sit still for long.
Are you proud? I remembered to give PB the camera to get a picture of me! I think this is Apple’s first recorded fake-camera-smile!
OK–this NEVER happens! After forcing the kids to take the family pictures, a few of them ASKED me to take their pictures on the rocks!! Again, I took tons. Here are 2 of my favorites.
After we were worn out, we drove by a McDonalds for sundaes and headed home for baths and bed. Whew!
