I’ve heard that the Olympics have been going on the last few weeks. Every once in a while, like when I check my Yahoo mail, or when I am listening to the radio in the car, I am reminded of the big event that has been going on this Winter. I had to do a Swagbucks search to find out what the logo looked like. Apparently this is it:
When I realized the Olympics were coming, I was hit with a tinge of regret. I loved watching the Olympics as a child. It was one time of the year when we could have TV on all the time (the other two were Winter break with all of the holiday specials on and any Saturday morning before 10:00). I love the Olympics.
This year, I haven’t given it much thought because
1) I am so used to not having a TV to watch at home that I hardly pay attention to what’s on (including all those commercials announcing upcoming events), and
2) I’ve just been too busy to spend any time watching TV. I did think about looking up the recaps online, but again…the whole busy thing. It got put on the back burner.
And then it hit me.
My kids don’t know the Olympics. It’s been so long since we’ve had TV that even the oldest kids were too young to have any Olympics memories of their own. Have I denied my children an important part of their childhood by not exposing them to the grandeur of the Olympics? They will never aspire to be Olympians because they have never been inspired by an Olympian.
My poor kids.
At least I haven’t been letting them eat a bunch of candy or pig out on Girl Scout cookies this week. Because then I might be feeling really guilty.
And I definitely haven’t been eating candy (Hello! Cadbury Mini Eggs season!) or Girl Scout cookies or Frogs Eye Salad myself.
…Because we all know that I’ve wanted to look my best for Bloggy Boot Camp this coming weekend. I wouldn’t jeopardize my appearance just to enjoy a few (dozen) goodies (a day). {PSST! Oh My Goodness! There’s a picture of ME on the front page of Bloggy Boot Camp’s website!}
…And I don’t care how I look when I’m speaking tomorrow in front of who knows how many people (they did say “intimate press conference”–that means small, right??) alongside the founder of Fishful Thinking, Dr. Karen Reivich, and New York City press. {Don’t worry–I’ll tell you all about my trip when I get back!}
This is all just practice for teaching about social media and photography at the Casual Bloggers Conference in May, right? By the time May rolls around I won’t be nervous anymore. (PS–if you are anywhere near Utah and could make it out to the CBC to hear me and other (more-) amazing bloggers speak, please click to find out more about time and ticket pricing. I even get a small percentage of the ticket sales through this new link, so you can do your good deed for the day by helping me buy my ticket to fly across the country. Not convinced? Check out the incredible agenda!!).
It’s all good. That’s what I have to keep telling myself. It’s all good.
PS–I’ve got a new Bloggography tutorial all set to post tomorrow morning, while I’m on my way up to New York City for the day. I’ll be thinking about you guys. Please reassure me that I will do fine. I will, right?

Honestly I could live without watching the Olympics. I am not anti-Olympics but I just am not that excited to watch them, especially since they are taped & often of sports that aren’t *my* thing. My point (if I had one–which I’m sure I do) is that the kids will survive :D

You’ll do great! Don’t forget to share. Speaking is fun, once you’re up there you don’t get nervous at all (just like when they shut the cabin door in the plane). Just remember to enjoy it and have a blast.
As for the Olympics, we are all sports folks in my family so we always watched it, and did for the Winter games that just finished. We have family and friends in Vancouver and a few of them were volunteers so it was fun to read their FB updates. I was disappointed that we didn’t get live coverage though. Some of the broadcast was on too late for us (even though we were on the same time zone)
Have a safe trip!

We watch it but not religiously. My younger daughter is too young to appreciate it. We watch it more when my older daughter is here.

Have so much fun at boot camp!!! I’ve been up way too late every night watching the olympics and therefor too tired to go to the gym and do any sort of actual exercise!

Good luck speaking at those conferences! I’m sure you will do just fine. We didn’t watch as much of the Olympics as I would have wanted too. They were on television way to late. Whenever they were on I was busy putting kids to bed and by the time I was done with that I was too tired to watch. I remember watching them as a kid too. I think they televised more of the games when we were kids. Have a wonderful Monday!

You haven’t seen swagbucks? Click the link above and try it out. You just do your normal internet searches through them, and you get Amazon giftcards. I get about $5 a week, and I’m saving up for an iPod touch. I can explain it all to you if you’d like!
