I can vaguely recall a time in my life when I had moments of boredom during the day. That was so long ago that I can hardly remember what I did with my time. Now, my days are split between work and blogging, taking care of five growing children (and their never-ending demands) as well as managing a household of seven. I often make it to the end of the day, exhausted but wishing for a few more hours to complete the items on my to-do list. I wake up each morning wishing for an extra hour or two of sleep.
There simply never seems to be enough time.
And yet, I’ve always been a firm believer in Me Time. Not only do I crave a few minutes of time to myself every day, but I really do feel like I need that break to rejuvinate, refresh, and remotivate myself to keep plugging along. I most often find those small moments of peace to myself in the wee hours of the morning or late at night. Unfortunately, keeping those hours also leaves me craving more sleep, but I seem the need to mental break more than the physical one.
Juice Box Jungle (the widget over there in my sidebar) challenged me to think about what I would do if I could guarantee 10 minutes to myself every day. 10 minutes seems manageable, right? If I can’t find 10 minutes a day to devote to ME, then I’ve got some problems. Me time makes me a better mom, a better wife, and a better friend.
Can you pick out these bloggers’ toes?
With 10 minutes, here are a few things I could do to rejuvinate myself every day:
- Paint my toe nails (what is it about dark red toe nails that makes me feel pretty?)
- Read a chapter in my book
- Take pictures of something I haven’t been paid to do. Just for fun
- Call my mom
- Call a girlfriend
- Write in my journal
- Make myself an ice cream sundae and EAT IT
- Chat on twitter
- Lay down on my bed and close my eyes (Ahh!)
- Lock myself in the bathroom and pretend that I am alone….
- Do my make-up (more than the usual around-the-house make-up)
- Go on a walk (granted, it would be a short walk…)
- Spend “quality time” with my husband
- Watch the news
- Play a game online
- Reconnect with a friend on facebook or via email
- Bake something just for fun
- Read some blogs
- Read up on the current news
- Clean out my email inbox (I know–I’m living on the wild side!)
What would you do with 10 minutes a day, all to yourself?
Sprint, the current sponsor in my JuiceBoxJungle widget on my sidebar, recently launched ‘Gaming on the Now Network.’ So, if you are looking for a “10 minute brain boost” and happen to be online, you can check out the game they are promoting and learn more about “The Now Network” via the JuiceBox widget. Sprint and JuiceBoxJungle have sponsored me to write about what “ten minutes” a day means to me.

Can I take 10 minutes just to close my eyes and breathe? Other than that, I would knit.
Thanks for visiting me!!!

Excuse me, call your favorite sister, Andrea, should be #1 on your list. ; ) I love calling family, I also have a guilty pleasure of reading Nicholas Sparks novels lately…..I am a little embarrased how relaxing that is to me!

How about 10 minutes an hour? Yes, I am trying to enjoy the weather. After the winter we had, I am really appreciating the sun!

Reading a book on the patio sounds heavenly! I think I might have to unplug today and read!

Ahem. That’s totally me! ;)

I love your ideas. Except for the yoga. I have troubles with my breathing, and when I do yoga, I tend to panic. Yeah, not so relaxing for me.

It would be hard for me to remember what boredom is, except that my kids like to remind me about it frequently. Isn’t it funny that kids never seem to catch on that if they tell mom they’re bored, she’ll give them something to do??

Your green toes were awesome! I think you should go for green this week for sure (I’m a little jealous of your pedi….I just painted my own nails last night!)

Fun pic! Hmm, 10 minutes, can I have 30? I guess I would sit outside and enjoy the weather before the snow flies again, I might even take my book with.

With 10 extra minutes I would do a mini-workout or listen to a meditation CD.
