In case you missed it, I did a taste off between two brands of 100 calorie Greek Yogurts this week. While this bonus recipe is not a required part of my paid #TasteOff campaign, I will be sharing my campaign links, so I want to be upfront and clear and all that. The “recipe” for Greek Yogurt berry trifle and enthusiasm are my own and totally authentic, I swear.
I have quite a sweet tooth (you really should just lock me up during the few weeks before and after Easter…so much candy around!!) so when I can find a dessert that satisfies my sweet tooth but is relatively guilt-free, I am all over it.
Tonight, I had to make one of my frequent runs to the grocery store to stock up on milk for breakfast, bread for lunch, and about $100 of additional “necessities.” In one of the prominent displays at the front of the store, I saw gorgeous, bright red, ripe strawberries on sale. Cleverly positioned next to the strawberries were some fluffy white angel food cakes. They were the first two things I put into my cart.
One of the other things on my list was some more Yoplait Greek 100 yogurt because after our recent taste test, my family has been bugging me to stock up on some more. I happily complied. While I was choosing flavors to buy, a picture popped into my head that looked something like this:
An idea was born. I couldn’t wait to go home and make some Greek yogurt berry trifles.
This recipe (if you can even call something this simple a recipe) was ready in less than 10 minutes and was beyond delicious. The proportions are going to vary by serving cup size…so just keep some extra angel food cake and strawberries close by. Next time I make these (because there WILL be a next time) I’m going to add some additional berries (I think blueberries would be beautiful AND tasty, don’t you?).
Greek Yogurt berry Trifle
- 1 container Yoplait Greek 100 Mixed Berry yogurt
- About 2 cups angel food cake, cubed
- About 8-10 strawberries, sliced
- Whipped cream to top, if desired
- Slice strawberries and cut or tear angel food cake into bite sized pieces.
- Layer: about ¼ cup angel food cake, a few slices of strawberries, and a large spoonful of yogurt (or about ¼ of the container). Repeat the layers.
- If desired, top with whipped cream.
- Makes 2 trifles.
Perhaps the thing I loved most about this dessert versus strawberry shortcakes (which are very similar) is the subtle tartness of the Greek yogurt. It was a beautiful contrast to the sweet cake and ripe berries.
