Tackling Laundry Stains

Tuesday, March 24, 2009 by Lolli Leave a Comment

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

For this week’s tackle, I turned again to Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Home for advice on getting stains out of clothes (for those who haven’ been following me all month, I have been basing all of my tackles for the month of March on a great cleaning resource, Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Home: No-Nonsense Advice that Will Inspire You to CLEAN like the DICKENS. And I’m giving away TWO more copies of the book this week! Enter by clicking HERE.

I typically set my stained clothes off to one side of the washer to deal with, um….later. Later is just never a good thing when it comes to dealing with stains. And then there are the clothes that I don’t *know* are stained until I am folding the already-dried clothes. Ugh. With a family of 7, there are just too many clothes to pick through them individually before sticking them in the washer.

My absolute favorite stain tip was this one: Use an eye dropper to put a few drops of hydrogen peroxide on bloodstained garments before washing them. If you are out (say, at a soccer game….) when the clothes become blood-stained, spit on the spot!! Yes, that’s right! Spit on the blood. Saliva has an enzyme that breaks down the proteins in blood.

Luckily, I didn’t have to try out the blood-stained clothes tip this week. That’s not to say that we didn’t get any skinned knees this week, though. We get plenty of chocolate, milk, and grass on clothes on a regular basis.

What are some of your best tips on getting stains out? Please share! And then go enter the giveaway! Thanks for stopping by!
