4 years and 2 days ago, I was scheduled to go into the hospital to deliver my 5th baby. Our baby (we never found out the sex of the baby before hand) was to be the 7th family member born on a Tuesday. I know it’s silly, but CandyMan and I really enjoyed the fact that he and I and all of our kids were born on Tuesdays.
When I got to the hospital at my appointed time that Tuesday, I was crushed to find that all of the labor and delivery rooms were full, so we were sent to the waiting room to watch talk shows and wait. AJ was my first “scheduled” delivery, but by the 5th time around, I figured I knew my body and I knew what to expect. I knew that no matter how many days I’d been having contractions 5 minutes apart, and that no matter how many hours I’d been in labor, I’d still need pitocin. I also knew that once the my body was ready, it would happen fast. And it did. Once everything was ready, that is.
After hours of waiting, a room finally opened up for us. I won’t bore you with all of the details. There was just a lot of waiting. Finally, after hours of waiting and some pretty intense pains, I rolled over and AJ was born. But that’s a story for a different time. He was born at 1:05 AM….on Wednesday May 18th. Yes, I agree that we were slightly disappointed about missing Tuesday by such a small window, but our disappointment was soon overshadowed when we realized that AJ shared a birthday with my Mother in Law AND my father. What a special day! My Mother in law was thrilled, and I’m sure my father was smiling up in heaven.
Nana and Grandpap, my in laws, were already planning a visit soon after his birth, and Nana has continued the tradition of visiting us each year (minus one) for their shared birthday. This year, Grandpap came along.
I just had a fabulous weekend with my in laws. They are so good to us, and so wonderful to the kids. The kids were in heaven with so many hours to play with Nana and Grandpap. There is nothing quite like bringing the generations together. Sometimes I am sad that we don’t live near either set of grandparents, and I worry that my kids won’t have a close relationship with our parents, but whenever we get together it feels as if no time has passed. It might take some extra effort, but I admire the relationship that the kids have developed with their grandparents.
Here are a few of the pictures I captured this weekend:
Thank you, Nana and Grandpap, for giving us such a memorable, wonderful weekend together!
