One of MamaKat’s writing prompts, inspired by Leslie from Motherhood in Mexico, jumped out at me today. It could have something to do with the fact that KitKat and I were discussing whether or not she’d make a good lawyer on Monday. Or maybe not. Either way, I thought it would be fun to predict what my kids will be when the grow up.
My kids are a unique bunch, as you might expect with kids and personalities.
KitKat (14), my oldest, has always been a negotiator. When she was tiny, she was always thinking of ways to negotiate how to stay up a little later. She has also always been very analytical and a deep thinker and able to manipulate a situation to her benefit. I can hear the conversation she had with Daddy when she was 5 or so. Sitting on the bed, getting ready to go to sleep, she asked CandyMan, “Daddy, can I ask you three questions?” “Sure, honey,” he replied. “Dad, is Santa Claus real? Is the Easter Bunny real? And do you ever have a good day at work?” Candyman asked her what she thought. She said something along the lines of, “Well, I think you and Mom are Santa. I mean, how can Santa get to all of those houses in one night? And it doesn’t make sense for a bunny to take baskets around to kids. I don’t know about work. You always seem tired when you come home.” I think KitKat would make a great lawyer or teacher. She’d make her students think outside the box!
Necco (almost 12) is 100% creative. She writes, she draws, she plays multiple instruments, she cooks, and she crochets. She is also a wonderful, deeply tender care-giver. I predict that she will be a mother with a successful etsy shop.
Twizzler (10) is the brains of the family. When he was in kindergarten, he was helping his older sister with her math homework. He’s breezing through 6th grade math this year….and he’s in fourth grade. The thinks in absolutes and can solve number problems (as long as they aren’t word problems!) like nobody’s business. I predict that he will do something with numbers. What do mathmaticians do for careers? Obviously, I am not one. Maybe he will follow in his Grandpa’s footsteps and be an engineer.
Reese (8) was my sweet, little daughter who asked “to help moms with their babies” for her birthday in March. She has been drawn to younger children for as long as I can remember, and has mothers and day care providers asking for her phone number to come to help them with their younger kids. She would rather hold a baby than run around at the park with other kids her age. It’s easy to predict that she will be a terrific mom and likely a teacher or day care provider as well. The more kids the merrier for Reese. (Either that or she’ll be an exotic dancer. She has always known how to shake her booty).
AJ (almost 6) is my comedian. He sings, he acts, he is expressive to an extreme. He is also very tender. I bet he’d make a great actor, but as a mother, I don’t really care to wish that on him. With his obvious intelligence and knack for expressing himself, I am going to peg him as an entrepreneur like his Dad. Or a motivational speaker. Granted, last time I asked him, he wanted to be a pirate…..
What do you think your kids will be when they grow up?

Lolli I think you have amazing kids and a wide range of talents. I think aspiring to be a pirate is wonderful indeed. Pirates are cool! (Have you taken him on the Pirate Adventures boat in Annapolis? It’s so much fun!) I also have a little exotic dancer on my hands. Ever since I let her watch Dancing With The Stars. Now she’s bustin’ out some moves all the time. I try not to laugh but that little booty shake is so cute!

My daughter is 7yo and recently had the same conversation with me as KitKat had with her daddy about santa and the easter bunny. I confirmed her suspicions that they were false and she was so excited.

So cool to think about all of that. Mine are 1 and 3, so I don’t have a lot to work with, yet. I think my daughter will be super logical and verbal, so lawyer is a great one. My son is pretty interested in how things work, so maybe an engineer.
Oh, and math careers are interesting. Not my thing, but they are my husband’s. He was an engineer but hated the physics; he is numbers guy. He’s now an actuarial analyst and loves it. Tons of statistics and calculations. (For your little math genius!)

My daughter is also very creative, tender-hearted and loves animals. I think that she would be a great vet.
My son is very smart, an analytical thinker, loves children and a natural musician. I think that he will be a professional musician and teacher.
My son is very intelligent, can argue any point, very well informed about many subjects and has a magnetism to him that draws other people. If he does not end up a politician, I am guessing lawyer. He is also very good at sports, so he could become a sports writer or agent for athletes if he doesn’t end up one himself.
My daughter is smart and very down to earth. She is dependable, mature for her age and caring. I am thinking she may end up a doctor or vetenarian. She has mentioned being a teacher, so that is an option too.
This is so great. I think it will be so cool to see if you are right on some or all of these someday! Mine are mostly too young to predict yet, I think but my oldest is 7 and I can see him doing something with science or history. He’s VERY into science lab at school and currently LOVES dinosaurs. Maybe even be a teacher himself…
Okay, I’m reading along blissfully thinking about how sweet this is and then BAM! the exotic dancer comment jolts me & I start cracking up.

I thought this was kind of a hard question, but you did a great job with it. My Baby Girl has always had these great deductive reasoning powers and is crazy argumentative. I told her the other day I think she is going to be a police detective and bring bad guys to justice, because she also sees in definitives. It is all black and white for her, no grey.
Bud? I have no idea. Professional wrestler? LOL
I haven’t been really thinking about what I think they would be when they grow up.. I’m happy that if they will be able to choose a profession/occupation which they like and can support their chosen lifestyle.
Juice was amazing at math too. Still is! He wanted to be a math major but couldn’t figure out what kind of job you could get. One semester left to go, and he found out that you can be a code breaker for the FBI. Cool! But by then we were married and tired of school so he stuck with being an engineer. Still cool. :)
