I somehow escaped a family history of bad eyes. Grandpa was an optometrist and everyone in the family needed glasses. Lucky profession.
I still have relatively perfect vision, except for my astigmatism.
My kids, on the other hand, aren’t so fortunate. Like clock-work, somewhere between 8 and 9 years old, they have each needed to get glasses. And so far, with the first 3 kids at least, their eye sight has gotten worse and worse.
We buy a lot of glasses.
My husband has kept the same out-dated frames for years. He prefers contacts, anyway. The kids, on the other hand, are still growing….and they tend to be a little bit rougher on their glasses. I knew from the start that there was no way I would be able to spend a fortune on premium glasses for my kids. Between changing prescriptions, growing heads, and accidents, I wanted to find an option that was much more on the affordable side.
I discovered Zenni Optical a few years ago after seeing a recommendation from someone online. I did some research, decided that getting some glasses from Zenni was a great deal, and ordered 3 pair – 2 pair for KitKat (she likes to be fashionable and match her glasses with what she’s wearing) and one pair of glasses for Necco (she had recently gotten some frames from the eye doctor and so all she needed was a spare).
You can’t lose when glasses start from $6.95 and (most importantly) the lenses are spot-on the prescription. I even took the glasses to the optometrist to check, and she gave the lenses a thumbs-up.
If the thumbs-up from my optometrist wasn’t enough, I just heard that Zenni Optical was mentioned in Time magazine too. The only question is….how many pairs of glasses do you need??

Ah, yes! I’ve been wearing glasses / contacts for 23 years. Just this past year someone told me about zenni optical and I’ve saved so much money by ordering from them. Because they were so cheap, both my wife and I ordered two pairs, just in case we lost one of them. They’ve been great for us! Thanks!

I have heard about them, but couldn’t remember the name. Glasses are expensive, even with the little bit of insurance that I have. I will be checking this site out. Thank you.
