I’m a YesVideo Ambassador! #YesMemory

I have a little tradition on Sunday afternoons. Other than taking a nap, of course.

I listen to my toddlers talk in their silly, slurry accents. I watch my older kids bottle feed their little siblings for the first time. I listen to my Grandma tell stories and play songs on the piano with my kids on her lap. I watch in wonderment as I walk through a doorway wearing my wedding gown.

I no longer have a toddler. My kids are growing up rapidly and now argue and tease each other instead of cradle them with admiration. My Grandma passed away 5 years ago, and I no longer get to sit on her couch listening to her tell stories or play her piano. Next month I will be celebrating my 17th anniversary and out-grew my wedding dress years ago.

But because of the miracle of videos, I can still experience those moments like they just happened yesterday. You know that I am very pro-photos. I take a ton of pictures of my kids and I value those memories. But those photos don’t capture the sounds and mannerisms and I forget those things so easily.

We used to plug the ancient camcorder in to the TV, rewind the 8 mm tapes, and watch home videos from there. It was tedious, but it worked. I was always worried, though, that one of the kids would accidentally press the wrong button and erase our old memories or, just as likely, that we would over-play the tapes and wear them out. The other thing that scared me was the fact that we had ONE way to play back the video cassettes, and if that broke down, we would be out of luck.

That’s where YesVideo comes in. A few months ago, I tried out YesVideo for the first time. Since we got our first 4 DVDs of memories back, we have been watching more and more of our home videos. My youngest son, AJ, who wasn’t born when the majority of the videos were taken, now talks about things that happened to his older siblings as if he had been there. My kids are getting to know each other on a whole new level. And I love it.

This month, I am proud to join 4 other bloggers as YesVideo ambassadors. I will be blogging at YesVideo’s blog over the next few months (and believe me, the topics that I have planned out will be so much fun!) as well as blogging here about photography and family memory ideas.
