*GIVEAWAY CLOSED* (But you can still click the fish!)
As most of you know, I have been a Fishful Thinking Ambassador for the last 2 weeks, spreading this good message from Pepperidge Farms Goldfish. And while I have been spreading the message to others, I have been the one to benefit the most. Isn’t that always the way it happens? Yesterday, I was in the kitchen getting dinner ready and Necco, my 9 year old, spotted a piece of paper on the counter and said, “What’s this? …..Treasure box? ….Oh, is this another Fishful Thinking activity? Cool! I love those!” Really!
I have noticed the most change in Necco over the last year. She has so many amazing strengths. She is fabulous with children, and SO responsible. She is talented in so many areas, but she has a harder time with school than her siblings on both end. I have seen her discouraged on many occasions as she hasn’t been able to figure out her homework. Or when her brother and sister come home with straight A’s and she doesn’t…..
But Necco is a fishful thinker.
Fishful Thinking is comprised of five Key Ingredients:
Optimism: Focusing on the positive things in life.
Emotional Awareness: Expressing and controlling your feelings.
Goal Setting/ Hope: Finding ways to achieve your goals.
Resilience: Coping with life’s ups and downs.
Empowerment: Identifying and using your strengths and skills.
Lessons to Learn
Kids today face a great deal of stress and complex challenges and many parents wonder how to best help them through these difficult times. Fortunately, parents can learn simple ways to teach kids the skills that shape a positive attitude, enable them to overcome challenges and reach their full potential.
I know that this is certainly true of my kids. There is so much pressure at school, and I have witnessed how easy it is for kids to become discouraged, stressed, focused on their limitations rather than their strengths, and unable to express their emotions.
How much better off are our kids going to be if they learn NOW to focus on the positive, recognize and control their feelings, set and achieve goals, cope with ups and downs, and acknowledge their strengths?
Wait! Did I say something about a giveaway?? Fishful Thinking has been generous enough to offer one of my readers a $25 giftcard to Macy’s. How cool are they?!
