I was invited on an expense-paid press trip to Los Angeles to learn about the Aladdin Diamond Edition Blu-ray/DVD release, but all thoughts and excitement are my own. I was sent a copy of the new Blu-ray along with another to give away to a lucky reader, so please scroll down to enter to win! Are you excited about Aladdin coming back?! I am so thrilled that Aladdin has been released from the Disney vaults (and am I the only one who pictures Aladdin sitting at the bottom of a sealed Cave of Wonders waiting for someone to open the door??).
I was a senior in high school when Aladdin came out in theaters. I remember that the scene that had the most impact on me was when Genie sang “Friend Like Me.”
I loved learning from Eric Goldberg, the animator who created the Genie, that that song (and the dancing hands segment in particular) was the scene that solidified the movie for several of the people involved in making it. It was when they saw the Genie dancing with his hands that they knew the movie would work. How cool is it that their favorite scene was the very scene that stood out to me when I watched it for the first time?
I remember watching Aladdin for the first time and feeling like I “knew” the Genie because I could hear Robin William’s voice in everything he said and did. It was easy to fall in love with the lovable Genie!
Speaking of memories, Brad Kane (the singing voice of Aladdin) discussed his experiences recording the memorable songs that we all know and love from Aladdin. I love seeing Brad (who was a senior in high school at the time that he recorded the movie, just like me!) with all of his colorful expressions and enthusiasm. What a fun role to play!

I grew up watching Aladdin so I get all giddy when someone mentions the movie. And the most meaningful memory is playing pretend with my fake magic carpet, it’s from one of my favorite scenes where you can sing along. I thought it was the coolest.

Getting to watch at the movies back when it first came out with my kids. Even as they grew to adults we usually still went & saw Disney movies together. Now they have kids, and I would love to watch it with them now! TY for the chance.
