Despite the first flakes of snow that fell late this morning, my friend, LT, and I drove to Virginia to enjoy the beautiful landscapes at Great Falls. This is a gorgeous spot on the Potomac River, and it has been too long since I’ve been there. In fact, I think the last time I was there was the summer that Nerds was one.
Today may have been a “little” on the nippy side, but AlmondJoy didn’t seem to care. He LOVED dancing around on the viewing platforms, picking up rocks (and throwing them, despite my warnings not to), and simply enjoying the beauty of the Potomac.
I forgot to mention….the primary reason LT and I went to Great Falls was to complete our November photo assignment (she invited me into her photo group a few months back, and it has been so much fun!). One of our categories this month was rocks, and honestly, most pictures of rocks–just rocks–are pretty boring. So we tried to think of more interesting rock subjects. Great Falls was PERFECT! Now, I just have to pick my favorite shot out of the 100 or so that I took. Any help narrowing down my choices would be greatly appreciated! :)
I had to take a picture or two of my fellow photographer, too!
And, of course, my cute travelling companion, Al.
“Look, Mom! I found a HUGE leaf!”
“Look at the eagle, Mom!” (granted, it was a turkey vulture and not an eagle, but it was still pretty exciting to see such a big bird)
And then he discovered the rocks…..
I noticed a little drainage hole in the wall and experimented to see what a picture taken through the pipe might look like. Not much to see, but kind of cool.
I am hoping that it doesn’t get much colder this weekend, because I am already cold in my house. We don’t have the kerosene heater back at the house for the winter yet….and I’ve been craving it’s heat this last week. Oh! To feel warm and toasty! Lis–enjoy your heat! I’m freezing!
BUT, on the other hand, I am so grateful to have a house that shelters us and does a good job at keeping us warm through the cold months. It could be MUCH worse. I am grateful for the coming holiday season….I broke out the Christmas music officially today. I figured the first snow flurry made it OK. I am making this holiday a very layed back, focus-on-family time. I am grateful that I got to see my mom this week, even if it was just for a short time. I am thankful for my wonderful children who keep me company while my husband is working insane hours to make our new company succeed. They bring me so much joy I want to squeeze them! (isn’t it funny how your kids either make you so happy you want to squeeze them to pieces…..or so mad that you want to squeeze them to pieces??)
