The very first stop of our 3000+ mile family road trip was the Flight 93 National Memorial in Southwest Pennsylvania.
Things to know before you visit: There is a limited restroom facility (basically, a permanent outhouse) but no water or food. Bring your own water if you’ll need it during your visit. The Memorial is completely outdoors with limited shade, so be prepared for heat/sun/rain/cold conditions.
The Flight 93 Memorial is a beautiful location to visit, but not very interactive for kids. The Memorial consists of things to read and places to walk and reflect.

I wouldn’t mind checking this area out. I think my kids would understand.

We drove by the Memorial on our way West (we were heading from DC to Utah) so we didn’t have any extra time in the area. My sister lives in PA so I do enjoy the bridges and other sites there. As far as the Memorial goes, I agree…it was a long way to drive from the main road and then a long way to walk from the parking area. It wasn’t the most exciting or interactive, but it was beautiful.

Was there last week! I prefer the set-up the farmer originally had where you could view the crash site from up on the hill. Down at the memorial, you can’t see anything. Also, we couldn’t understand the need for the great distance walk to the Memorial. Rather hard for some of us that have difficulty walking. I need to dig out those old pics we took about 2 years after the crash. Also, we were sad to see so much farm land taken for this cause. Didn’t understand the need for the more than double distance to the site. The original drive was from another road. Did you get to see any of the covered bridges in that beautiful area of PA?
