I wasn’t sure what to expect from Mother’s Day this year, considering I was flying solo this weekend. I knew that the girls were scheming yesterday (“Don’t come down here, Mom!”) and I knew that Peanut Butter had bought me a gift before he left. Unfortunately, he had left it in his truck, and it was sitting in the passenger seat when I drove the girls to their activities on Thursday night. So…..I went to bed on Saturday night knowing that at least this year would be a little better than last (last year was the year that PB forgot about Mother’s Day…).
I was awakened when it was still dark outside (about 5:50am) to the sound of banging in the kitchen. My first thought was “Intruder!” and then I recognized the sounds of kids cooking. I went back to sleep to await the surprize. Just before 7:00, Kiwi and Noodle came in the room. Breakfast was ready! They had made me a fruit smoothy, scrambled eggs, and Danish pancakes (especially impressive since this was a recipe noone in the family had ever eaten or made before. And it had lime peel in it! I was so proud of Kiwi for her confidence in the kitchen). Oh–and a cake for later. When breakfast was over, the 2 big girls and Apple, who was awake by now, gave me my presents–candy and a book from PB and a variety of homemade things from them–and then we snuggled.
I ended up reading a chapter of my new book (The $64 Tomato) and fell back to sleep. Ahh! Reese was the next to wake me up at 8:45 (nice!) by telling me that there was a man in our house downstairs. Really? I put on some clothes–yikes!–and went down to find one of our neighbors, who works with PB sometimes, with something to give to PB. I used to watch him before he went to school in the mornings, way back when I was sick and pregnant with Noodle. I guess he’s used to seeing me looking scary!
The rest of the day was relatively uninteresting….getting ready for church, cleaning up 3 accidents on the kitchen floor within 20 minutes (after the 3rd puddle, I gave up on Apple wearing underwear for the day….maybe the week?), typical Sunday stuff. It was raining. We took naps, ate a late dinner, and finished the book we’ve been reading out loud (The Tale of Desperaux–I highly recommend it!). All in all, a very decent Mother’s Day. I feel loved.
And, of course, no post would be complete without some pictures. These got overlooked last week. After Reese got home from school the other day, I made her go out back with me for some pictures. Her outfit was just TOO classic. I bought that skirt as clothes for some stuffed bears that the girls got a while back. It’s size 12 months! Skinny bottom!
Happy Mother’s Day to all you Mothers out there! Hope your kids treated you well. :)
