I didn’t watch the news before leaving for the airport on Saturday afternoon. So I was completely caught off guard when, 15 minutes after the first group of passengers had boarded our plane, we were told,
“I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that we will be getting you to Phoenix today. The bad news is, it won’t be on this plane. We are going to be changing planes in a few minutes. They need this aircraft for a flight to Baltimore because of storms on the East Coast.”
The worst part of that news for me was that my final destination was Baltimore. First, I was sad that the plane I almost got on was going to be flying straight to Maryland. Second, as the time ticked on and we had not heard any news about our new plane, I was panicking that I would not make my transfer in Phoenix, or that I would make the plan but not have any time to pick up some dinner in the terminal.
Everything worked out fine in the end. I got back home in one piece, and I brought plenty of books to keep me occupied during the 8 hours of travel time.
Being home is good, but stressful all at the same time. I missed my kids, and I’m glad to be with them again, but trip recovery always seems to put me right there on the very edge. If I can just hold on a few days til things settle back into a routine…..
How do you survive post-vacation stress?
