This post is brought to you by Pepperidge Farm® Milano® cookies, but concerns my own opinion.
I’ve been a mother for nearly 20 years (more than 20 years if you count the 9 months I carried my oldest daughter). So when it comes to understanding the full spectrum of what mothers go through on a daily basis (whether they are first time moms, moms of babies, toddlers, school-aged kids, teens, or young adults) I’d probably “been there, done that.”
And one thing is for certain when it comes to being a mom, and that is: “me-time” is hard to come by, but critically important.
How many of you can relate to the mom in this video?
I have been in her shoes more times than I can count. And guess what? Sorry moms of toddlers….It doesn’t get easier when the kids become teens. The situations are just different. Instead of toys being left on the floor and thrown into the fish tank, they steal my iPad, eat all the food, and take over the TV.
Sometimes being a mom is exhausting!
Why is me-time so important for moms?
Women take on so many roles: mother, caregiver, friend, wife, lover, teacher, employee, business owner, chauffer….the list could go on and on. Because of all of the roles we take on, it’s crucial for women to save some time and energy to refuel. Sometimes, after I’ve given so much of myself to all of the other people that count on me, it feels like there’s nothing left over for ME. Can you relate?
When I am constantly on the go and in “give” mode, I wear myself out. Luckily, my husband has always been extremely aware of the need for me to fill up my tank. Otherwise, I’d be running on empty all too often.
A few years ago, I wrote a post with 5 tips for fitting me-time into your busy schedule. Among the tips I mentioned were making sure that you set aside regular time for yourself. How often do you get to the end of the day absolutely exhausted because you’ve been on “give” mode All. Day. Long? So do yourself a favor and write down “me-time” on your schedule for this week and remember to value the time to refuel.
Kids aren’t the only ones that thrive on “rewards” for accomplishing something. Why not reward yourself for all of the things YOU accomplish each day? Whether you take me-time in the form of a solitary walk or a hot bath or a special snack that you enjoy all to yourself, time dedicated just to yourself can fuel you for the rest of the day….or the week!
Speaking of delicious snacks, did you know that Pepperidge Farm® Milano® cookies just added 3 new flavors to their already-incredible selection? You can now try Salted Caramel, Mocha and Banana (Banana is a limited edition Spring flavor). I am partial to salted caramel….that’s definitely a me-time reward I can’t wait to indulge in!
