It’s day 4 of the SITS Back to Blogging event and today we are each writing about a woman who inspires us. My mom was the first to come to my mind, as was this post:
No Question About It – August 4, 2009
I’m her daughter.
After spending the majority of last week with my mom, much of which time was spent driving in the car, I was struck by how much my mom and I are alike.
That’s not to say that I am a carbon copy of her. We are unique in many ways. But in so many ways–from the completely insignificant to the relatively important–I am just like her, and that makes me happy. And proud.
I am sad that we live on opposite Coasts, that my time with her is always too short. But maybe, just maybe, the limited time together makes me appreciate her all the more.
When my mom visits, I never get enough sleep and my house ends up being a mess by the end, but that is not because Mom is a burden. It’s simply because we want to soak up as much time together as possible, and those other things just aren’t important enough. She would clean my house from top to bottom if I asked her to, but that’s not what I want from our time together.
Please excuse our make-up-less, travelled-out appearance here. Despite it, I love these pictures from last week’s trip to Pennsylvania. She’s my mom, and I love her more than anything.
Although today wasn’t necessarily supposed to be a re-post of a past blog, I felt like resurrecting this one. It makes me happy. It also makes me happy to know that this morning my mom is just a few hours away, helping my sister with her new baby girl. My mom traveled across the country after each of my five kids was born, and she continues to do the same as my siblings have babies. I wish more than anything that I could be there with them now, but I know that the time with Mom after having a new baby is precious. I’ll just take comfort in the fact that she’s in my time zone and on the same Coast as I am for a few weeks.
I hope I can be as good of a woman as she is.

Hey! What a beautiful story! I love that you talked about how your house was a mess but it was because you liked to “soak” up as much time together possible. Good word.
I didn’t write a post today… too tired, too sick. But if I was going to write about a mentor, it would be my friend Marionela. She worked for children in an orphanage in Romania and she was my travel guide/facilitator when I worked there too for 4 months. She was amazing.
Thanks for sharing! Beautiful pictures!

What a sweet post and I love the natural pics of you guys together. Those will be cherished for years to come. I only pray that I can have that kind of relationship with my boys.
Stopping by from SITS :)

I love how our mom’s inspire us… they give unselfishly, they share knowingly and they love unconditionally. I’m so glad that you re-posted this! :)
Blessings.
