When was the last time YOU felt emotionally charged and enthusiastic about life?
For me, that moment came two weeks ago while driving home from Charlotte after the exhilarating and exhausting Type -A Parent Conference (preceded by four days in Southern California).
My friend Tara and I were discussing some business plans I had rolling around in my head. Though I had completely lost my voice by that point in my travels, my conversation with Tara was a flood of ideas and inspiration. My vocal chords may not have been working, but my fingers were flying across the iPad keyboard on my lap.
Sadly, though, I don’t feel emotionally charged every day. All too often, I get anxious and stressed and discouraged. I constantly worry that I’m not doing a good enough job as a mom, and I know that I could be utilizing my talents in more productive ways at work. I feel tired most of the time, and almost daily I fight the desire to kick back on the couch and do nothing.
The CHARGE
Brendon Burchard’s new book, The Charge, has awakened something in me. I was skeptical about starting a “self-help” book, and I honestly wasn’t in the mood to read page after page of “pep talk.”
Thankfully, The Charge is not a book filled with pep talk, and it isn’t your typical self help book, either. The fact is, The Charge hasn’t taught me anything new. I’ve just been reminded of things I already knew and been motivated to start thinking differently about my attitude, the way I view my work, and the way I value my connections.
“No matter your position, circumstances, or opportunities in life, you always have the freedom of mind to chose how you experience, interpret, and, ultimately, shape your world,” Brendon Burchard, The Charge.
So, thanks to The Charge, I am choosing to take steps to get closer to my goals. I’m working to have more of the traits of those who are living a charged life: “open and observant in the moment, future-oriented, challenge-seeking, deeply interested in others, self-reliant, creatively driven, meaning maker,” and I can’t wait to see the results.
