I picked Kiwi up from Outdoor Ed today. Two and a half days and two nights of sleep-away camp with the entire 6th grade. Wow. On the way home, we got to talking about her shoes. They were looking pretty beat before she spent 2 1/2 days in the rain and mud. So we took a detour and stopped by Kohl’s before going home. It was time for new shoes.
She declared to me that she needed VANS. Indeed, she only looked at Vans at the store. Nothing else was even considered. It was our first experience with buying clothes based on the brand. Following the crowd. We are thrift store shoppers. The only things I buy new are shoes. So this is really new for us.
There was not a huge selection of Vans at Kohl’s. There were the black and gray skull variety in the boy’s section and one pair in the women’s section. At least they were cute. And on sale. I handed her the size 6…the smallest in the women’s style. She tried them on….Too small. Guess what ended up fitting her? (and here’s the real milestone)….She bought the 7 1/2s. MY SIZE. My daughter now wears the same size shoe as I do. Weird!
Oh, and just as a side note….she is being ultra crabby tonight. I’ve warned everyone to stay away from her. She calculated that she has gotten 11 hours of sleep since Sunday. And it shows. Yikes. I’m kinda looking forward to getting out tonight and leaving the kids with a babysitter. I hope the babysitter can handle her. Actually, she can probably do much better than me. She’s a teenager.
Are you surprised? No pictures!
