I was invited on an expense-paid press trip with Walt Disney Studios/ABC TV last month in exchange for sharing all that we learned and experienced. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have watched more TV in the last year than I have in the last 10, thanks to my iPad and a slew of apps and streaming services. I love discovering fun, new shows (and, yes, I love binge-watching old shows as much as I love catching all of the new shows!). Although ABC’s summer-time drama, Mistresses, is not one of the shows that I have gotten into, it was so much fun to meet a few of the actors from the show, tour the set, meet and chat with costume designer Roemehl Hawkins, and even watch while a few of the actors filmed a scene from one of the upcoming Season 2 episodes.
I’ll be upfront…the name Mistresses made me a nervous, since infidelity is not something to be taken lightly. One of the things that I appreciate hearing about Mistresses is that it doesn’t glorify cheating but shows the fallout and aftermath. Friends who have watched the series swear that the show revolves much more around the friendships between the group of female friends, Savi (Alyssa Milano), Karen (Yunjin Kim), Joss (Jes Macallan), and April (Rochelle Aytes).
Even if I’m not a devout fan like many of my fellow bloggers, I LOVED seeing the costumes up close, chatting with costume designer Roemehl Hawkins, and then seeing those same outfits being worn in the Season 2 series premiere.
When the Mistresses ladies walked out in these outfits (in the premiere episode), it was so cool!
I was fascinated to hear that costume designer Roemehl Hawkins spends a lot of her time preparing for upcoming episodes and planning the actor’s costumes by reading fashion blogs. Yes, she relies on bloggers for the most up-to-date, authentic, real-people-would-wear-it clothes for the characters on the show.
I was already admiring the outfit worn by Joss in the premiere (the far right) when Roemehl mentioned that the skirt was Radiant Orchid – the color of the season. I love the color!
Meeting Jason George
I knew actor Jason George from Grey’s Anatomy, where he plays Ben Warren, husband of Miranda Bailey. He was even more gracious and funny and handsome than I could have imagined he’d be in person.
One of our fellow bloggers (Choya from Therealfrugaldivas.com) is a huge fan of Jason’s (an understatement!), and I was most impressed at what Jason did when he first walked into the room where we were all standing. He immediately asked where Choya was, since she had tweeted him a few times before the event. He went right up to her, hugged her and kissed her on the cheek. I was surprised she was still able to walk by the end of his greeting!
Yes, the WHOLE cast of Mistresses is super sweet (we met a few others that I’ll be posting about next week) and as proof? The cast of Mistresses will be live-tweeting the premiere TONIGHT on ABC (see your local listings for times).
