MamaKat asked me to tell you about my most humorous wedding experience. I can’t believe I’m about to blog about my wedding night. And I’m not sure how to put this delicately. Let’s just say we laughed about it that night and we continue to laugh about it 14 years later.
Here’s how it happened:
We got married.
We took lots of pictures.
We met our friends and family at a big reception at the church. There was tons of good food. And more pictures. And lots of hand-shaking and hugging near-strangers.
We didn’t have time to eat that good food.
We changed into “travel clothes” and drove off to our honeymoon with a large gift basket full of the bounties of the reception:
Wedding cake
Cocktail meatballs
Mints
Pistachios
We ate and ate. It had been a long day.
And sometime in the middle of the night, we both noticed some uncomfortable rumblings. Certainly not the kinds of things you want to feel or hear on your honeymoon.
We could have both been horrified by the sounds and smells. But instead we laughed and laughed. What a way to break us into the realities of marriage.
Our wedding night stunk. Like gas-mask stink.
It was totally and completely disgusting, but it made us remember that we would loved each other. Through thick and thin and stinky gas. The awkwardness and the nerves were gone, and we laughed.
We’re still laughing. Life isn’t always funny, but we’re still laughing.
PS–have you read about my new URL? Check to see if my blog is updating for you in your blog roll yet (assuming that I’m there already…..)

Sleeves like that beg to be mentioned : )
I thought puffy sleeves were SO cool when I was a little girl!
I could NOT wait until I could have a puffy sleeve dress!
Isn't that funny? : )
Lolli says
You are the first person to mention my terribly out of style puffy
early 90s sleeves! THANK YOU!
I LOVED my dress when I bought it, but I bought it in 1993 and didn't
get married til 1995. I was already over it by the time I got married.
Oh well. I only wore it once, right?
lifewithkaishon says
I am totally and completely in love with your puffy sleeves! : )
Lolli says
Really? Ken? And you didn't say that I looked like Barbie?! Should I
be offended? Haha!
Usually, he is mistaken for Hugh Grant. And it bugs him to death.
Actually, now that he keeps his hair short, nobody says Hugh Grant
anymore, come to think of it.
mamakatslosinit says
He looks like a Ken doll…you two look so happy and cute together!! I never would have guess what was going on behind those pretty faces.
Lolli says
Haha! Do we ever really know what we're getting into until it's too
late?!
* TONYA * says
Oh. My. That is hilarious. Well at least you both knew from day one what you were getting into. I'm still learning about it 6 years later.
Lolli says
Thanks for letting me know! I am happy with the way things are going.
Pretty smooth. The hiccups have not been too horrible.
jenburiedwithchildren says
I loved this story. It was so funny.
And I am having no troubles getting to your site with your big girl url. Its nevre racking but things will work out. I promise, they did for me.
Lolli says
Thanks for stopping by! I learned very early on that life is never
boring with my husband. :)
Jael Cuatom Designs says
That's too funny!
Popping in from SITS!
Lolli says
Thank you for the compliment! The photo is now a year old, but I think
it will remain a favorite for a long, long time. And, yes, we
certainly bonded in a different way than either of us were expecting
that night! LOL!
Elizabeth says
How hilarious! You and your husband must really have created a bond that night… oh vey!!!
By the way, since this is my first time stopping by, I had to comment on what a beautiful family you have. That photo of you, your husband, and children walking through a field is just to die for!

Great news! Thanks for letting me know! I've been wondering how things
are working out with the feed. I actually subscribed to myself to see
if I would get updates. :)
PS–I'm not necessarily going to TELL him that I posted this story. I
think I'll just be quiet about that. Haha!
7ClownCircus says
If that happened to jeff and I and I posted about it he would KILL me. :) So glad you can laugh about it. BLoglines is updating your feed for me. :)

Lolli says
Yeah. Why ease into true married life when you can jump right in, full
force?! :0)
whendidibecomemymom says
I love the photo… :-)
And what a welcome to the real world!
Lolli says
I'm sure he'll LOVE the fact that I posted that picture. And the
story. BTW–the picture was taken long before any meatballs or
pistachios crossed our lips. I just thought it was a perfect fit for
the story. You know–rather than a picture of me in lingere or
something….
Lolli says
The meatballs and nuts weren't spicy. Neither of us thought twice
about eating a bunch of gas-making foods! LOL!!
san33 says
Hahaha! Well it is for better or worse! ;)
