The Odd Life of Timothy Green follows a couple, Jim and Cindy Green, who are trying to adopt a child. As they tell their story to the adoption officials, the story of Timothy unfolds.
I have to admit – I was struck by the profound emotions – the sadness and helplessness – of infertility only 10 minutes into the film. Although I never had any issues with infertility, the Green’s emotions were raw and real, and I could feel their pain along with them.
Luckily, they didn’t dwell on the pain for long. Instead, the movie took a happy turn and the couple chose to move on and celebrate their “perfect child” for the night.
Without giving too much away, Timothy comes into the Green’s life, and although hard to accept at first, they embrace and rejoice in their new family. They discover, very quickly, many of the challenges of parenthood along side the immense joys.
Although at its core, The Odd Life of Timothy Green is about parenthood (with an underlying theme of infertility and adoption), this is a movie that the whole family can enjoy together. It is very family friendly and free of the 3 main movie-killers for me (profanity, sex, and violence). Although young kids might not understand the story at the same level as their parents, there is enough humor, magic, and fun characters to entertain everyone.
The Odd Life of Timothy Green opens this coming Wednesday, August 15, in theaters everywhere, and I recommend seeing it!
