Overheard at the Park

Monday, July 18, 2011 by Lolli 4 Comments

I overheard this conversation at the park last week, came home, and immediately wrote down as much as I could remember. It was too entertaining (shock value!) to forget.

pedal cars at Jellstone Park

6 year old boy: “You took my girlfriend away from me!”

6 year old girl: “No I did NOT! She’s my friend. I didn’t do anything to take her away from you!”

Boy: “You don’t understand – I LOVE her. She’s everything to me!”

Another 6 year old girl: “Well, you know she’s cheating on you.”

Boy: “No, she is NOT!”

Girl #2: “Oh yes, she is!”

Boy: “Well, how do you know? Cuz if she is cheating, I am breaking up with her.”

Girl #2: “Well, first, she TOLD me. And she’s been kissing Shane a LOT.”

Boy: “Shane? Man, I’m breaking up with her. How could she DO that?”

……And they kept going on about kissing and cheating and breaking up. And then Girl #1 came up to me and tried to talk with me and entice MY 6 year old son to play.

No, thanks. We’ll stick with legos and coloring books and pedal cars, thank you very much.

Why in the world are 6 year old kids talking about girlfriends and boyfriends and cheating?

(The two pictures in this post were taken during our trip to Jellystone Park last week. Now THAT was good, clean FUN!)

Dang it! Tell those kids to slow down already, there is plenty of time in your TWENTIES to worry about things like that. :) And if you could lecture my 9 year old about enjoying childhood while she can I’d appreciate that too…

That is just scary! I can’t even stand to hear my 10 & 11 year olds talking about ‘boyfriends’ and ‘girlfriends’. It’s always at school and I always tell them they are there to learn, not worry about girlfriends/boyfriends! Ugh.

I have a 6 year old girl and you wouldn’t believe the things she says. At dinner tonight, my husband leaned over and kissed me and she gasps, “You two are having sex!” I almost fell off my chair.
