Peanut Butter Cup & Oreo Layered Dessert

Ingredients

  • 24 Oreo cookies, divided
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar, divided
  • 1 carton (16 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed, divided
  • 15 miniature peanut butter cups, chopped
  • 1 cup cold milk
  • 1 package (3.9 ounces) instant chocolate pudding mix

Instructions

  1. Crush 16 cookies; toss with the butter. Press into an ungreased 9x13 in. baking dish; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese, peanut butter and 1 cup confectioners' sugar until smooth. Fold in half of the whipped topping. Spread over crust. (this step was difficult since the crust does not really stick together. I would recommend plopping down small spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture and very gently spreading).
  3. Sprinkle with peanut butter cups.
  4. (I was tempted to stop here because it already looked so good!)
  5. In another large bowl, beat the milk, pudding mix and remaining confectioners' sugar on low speed for 2 minutes Let stand for 2 minutes or until soft-set. Fold in remaining whipped topping.
  6. Spread over peanut butter cups.
  7. Crush remaining cookies; sprinkle over the top. Cover and chill for at least 3 hours.

Now grab a big bowl (how cute are these bowls on Amazon??), a spoon, and enjoy!

Warning: I am making NO claims that this is good for you. Eat at your own risk. Sugar coma may follow. But it will be a HAPPY sugar coma.

Note: My oldest daughter found this decadent peanut butter cup and Oreo no-bake dessert on Pinterest and we followed the recipe to TasteofHome.com.

We modified the original recipe a little, like we almost always do – specifically, we made ours in a 9×13 inch pan instead of a square pan so that the layers were thinner. If you like your layers thick, you can always use the 9 inch square baking dish. It might just make spreading easier. Either way, thin or thick, this is a YUMMY treat.

Which ingredients do you not have in the UK? I can try to help with substitutes – it may be that the ingredients are just called something different in the UK. They all seem like very basic dessert ingredients here. ;)

I would love to try this recipe but as I am in the UK have not a clue about the ingredients I could get to make it. Can anyone tell me what I can use to make it please?

Do you take the cream out of the cookies? Or crush all together?!

The crust can be chilled for about 20 minutes, which will help it hold together. Also, keeping the pan smaller would mean the crust would have a better chance of sticking together once chilled.

At the risk of sounding as if I’m saying “So what’s the big deal?,” five kids isn’t that extraordinary; my minister and his wife have SEVEN children, all biological (none adopted, though they were going to adopt three right after their 7th baby was born). That bizarre family formerly on TV whose one son has since been found to be a sex predator had, what? Nineteen kids? Now THAT is going overboard by any standards, even back in pioneer days.

So you crush 16 cookies, cream and all for the base? or do you mix the cream in with the cream cheese?

I used the whole cookie, cream and all!

Is the cookie cream just set aside or is it used in the recipe?

I haven’t tried it, but I would imagine that it would be just fine. Good luck! :)

I’m glad it turned out yummy, despite being so tight in the pan. :) PS – I know all too well the challenges of cooking with kids who distract!

Hi Jamie, I don’t think commenters can edit their comments but you can mention a revision to an original comment. Hope that helps some! :)

Hi I’m not sure what Facebook page shared your recipe but I just had to try it. I wanted a more thick dessert so I decu5 to use an 8×8 that I have. Not thinking it through that it’s too small lol. As I was making it is decided to freeze the Oreo layer while I make the creek cheese payer & let the topping thaw. While making it I had kids as a distraction, got the peanut butter, cream cheese & sugar whipped up though I was done pulled out the dish & spread the mixture on top. It spread fine thought ok cool. Starting chopping the peanut butter cups & see that I didn’t add the half topping to the peanut butter mixture thinking I ruined it i continued on with the recipe to the T lol. Let it sit in the fridge for about 4 hrs. Cut it & oh my goodness its so yummy. I’m glad I forgot to add the topping, the dessert filled the 8×8 up.

I’m visiting your blog because I saw your link as an example in the BYBC Facebook page on how to paginate! I blog over at Little Dairy on the Prairie and although I love family, food, and farming I’m not a pro at the computer. I love how you paginated, thanks for the example!
