Necco loves to ride bikes. In fact, she has been enjoying it so much that she and Dad are working towards a cross country biking trip (with camping included and everything).
While what they are working toward is an exciting and worthy endeavor for our family, their biking journey is nothing compared to the route that a few other bikers started yesterday. The Race 
Across America (RAAM) kicked off yesterday in Oceanside, California. Not only is it known as the “World’s Toughest Bicycle Race,” RAAM – which began in 1982 as the Great American Bike Race – is also one of the longest running endurance sporting events in the world.
CandyMan is absolutely fascinated and totally hooked.
The Ohio CycleWorks bike team, sponsored by FedEx Custom Critical, is participating in this year’s Race Across America (RAAM). The coolest thing about this year’s race is that one of the team cyclists, Scott Garchar, will be traveling with a SenseAware device which will be linked to the SenseAware web-based platform providing near real-time GPS location and environmental conditions. I can pretty much guarantee that CandyMan and I will be checking their movements daily. We can see everything from their progression in the race to the temperature (and humidity) where they are. I’m guessing the humidity levels are going to go up as they near the end…
The cyclists began their trek across the country Saturday, June 16 in Oceanside, California and will end in Annapolis, Maryland (pretty much MY backyard!) between June 21-25. You can follow their journey from California to Maryland on the SenseAware tumblr site: www.senseaware.tumblr.com
Biking for a good cause
Not only is the race an exciting sporting event, but the Ohio CycleWorks bike team is racing for a great cause. They are raising money for the Akron Children’s Hospital. The same technology that is tracking the biking team across the country – SenseAware® – also allows healthcare providers to monitor critical, life-saving medical shipments, making this a perfect “team”.
