Today has been an insanely busy day. For a person who spends the majority of the day on the computer, the fact that I am just sitting down to my computer for the first time today – at 8:30 PM – is quite a telling sign. Between picking one sick child up from school an hour and a half after she got there….to baking two different kinds of donuts before lunch….to taking another sick child to the doctor…to feeding the most enormous breakfast for dinner ever to a crowd of 11…to attending the school science fair. It has been tiring to say the least.
The most exciting part of the day, just barely behind the donut baking, was AJ’s first science fair. As seems to be the trend these days, we put off doing his project and found ourselves scrambling at the last minute to not only do a a science project but also create a presentation. In a moment of brilliance, I remembered a fun experiment I did with the kids last year.
We called it Magic Ketchup (and posted pictures and all the details you’d ever want to know about it on a blog post of the same name). We took it to a new level this week by trying different condiments in the water, trying out carbonated water (thank you, SodaStream!) as well as hot water. We were shocked by the results, and challenge you guys to do it with your kids.
Tonight at the science fair, AJ’s Magic Ketchup science fair project was a hit. Kids and adults alike were stumped by our little “trick” (again, in that post from last year) and then loved finding out why it worked – or didn’t work.
AJ is already planning next year’s science project, and I have to admit…as much of a non-science person as I am, I had so much fun doing this little experiment that I am eager to do more projects like this with my kids. I got a TON of ideas tonight.
What have you been up to this week? Have your kids participated in a science fair before? What projects have you done?
Link up your best shots of the week below. And have a fabulous weekend! (I’m hoping for a little reprieve, but I’m afraid I’ve got more craziness coming…)

Good luck! Those “extra” projects are tough to fit in with everything else we HAVE to do, but they can be fun. :)
