I am a member of the Invisalign Mom Advisory Board and Necco is receiving her treatment for free
I can’t believe that Necco is already over a month into her Invisalign treatment. I snapped this picture on Day 1, right after we got home from the orthodontist. Her Invisalign aligners were a new thing that day…they felt a little awkward at first and we all noticed a slight difference when she talked.
One of Necco’s biggest fears before starting her Invisalign treatment was that it would disrupt her life as a barbershop singer. She didn’t want her aligners to compromise her sound or make it awkward to sing normally. I wasn’t surprised to find out that hers was a common fear:
Myth: Invisalign treatment will disrupt our lives.
Setting it Straight: With Invisalign, Teens can play sports without fear of injury and continue cheerleading, musical instruments, acting and singing with little to no interference. And because it’s removable, brushing and flossing is easy and no food restrictions to worry about either. Invisalign is much less disruptive for busy moms and dads too. Invisalign Teen eliminates emergency ortho visits for broken wires and brackets and requires fewer appointments since several aligner sets are provided in advance.
Necco had her first post-aligners appointment last week. Since I’ve been through Invisalign with my older daughter, I knew what to expect, but Necco was surprised that it was literally an in and out visit. We were only in the office for 10 minutes!
As we drove back home, Necco and I chatted about her experience over the first 6 weeks or so of her treatment. She says that it really hasn’t disrupted her life at all. She quickly got used to taking her aligners in and out – even in “embarrassing” places like school or out at a restaurant. She is able to do everything she did before – talk, sing, go to class, sleep, play her viola, etc with her aligners in. AND NO ONE NOTICES. The only thing that she can’t do with her aligners in is eat and drink (water is ok, of course).
Here’s proof that Invisalign isn’t stunting her style one bit (Necco is the tenor, the highest voice, on the right side) –>

I love that Necco’s teeth can be moving and improving….but the process is not stopping her at all. In fact, she seems to be smiling bigger and more often than ever (although, truth be told, I think it has more to do with barbershop than it does with her teeth).

There are definitely advantages to invisalign but however you reach the end result of straight teeth is good in my book!

Sounds like she is off to a great start with her Invisalign journey. My daughter had braces for a really long time. I wish she could have the Invisaligns instead, but her teeth look great now anyway.
