This post and back to school shopping trip are being compensated by JCPenney through Glam Media, but all thoughts and opinions and dressing room photos are my own.
My kids head back to school TODAY. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. After being on vacation away from most of the family for 2 weeks (Necco, my 14 year old and I had a girl’s getaway!) I kind of wish I had a few more days to enjoy some lazy days of summer.
The First Day of School outfit is a huge deal, especially for my brand new high school freshman, Necco. We had so much fun this past week shopping for her back-to-school wardrobe.
We headed to JCPenney equipped with a list of clothes that she was hoping to find…and I went with a budget I was hoping to stick to. Shopping for back to school clothes for 5 kids can be tough on a mom! I want to find a balance of value and fashion – because that’s what the kids care about.
Necco spent quite a while in the dressing room trying on dozens of items that she found in the store. She ended up finding 3 pair of jeans that fit great (you can never have too many pair of jeans for school, right?). While she was trying on clothes, I found an army green and royal blue camo infinity scarf that I fell in love with…so I held onto it just in case there happened to be a little room left in the budget for a treat for me after stocking Necco up with all of her back to school essentials.
Even though I consider myself a seasoned bargain hunter, even I was shocked by the jaw-dropping deals that we walked away with. For $200 we were able to get:
- 3 pair of trendy blue jeans
- 1 pair of jean shorts
- 1 zipper hoodie sweatshirt
- 1 moustached happy face t-shirt (her favorite of the bunch)
- 1 3/4-length sleeve shirt
- 2 button-down long sleeve shirts (my favorite items)
- 7 colorful tank tops
- And 1 infinity scarf for me (hooray!)
That’s the kind of haul that I expect from a thrift store…not from a brand-new, up-to-date trendy, my-teens-want-to-wear-this kind of store.
While we were at our conference this past week, Necco took advantage of her new outfits and gave a few of them a trial run before her first day of school debut.
Doesn’t she look adorable in her #FirstDayLook? I think she’s going to be rocking the back to school fashion for weeks, and not just the first day.
Do you love back to school shopping for your kids? Wouldn’t you love it even more if you could get so much more for your money like we did on our back to school shopping trip at JCPenney?
Come find your #FirstDayLook at JCPenney. For back-to-school and every day, we bring you the quality and comfort you want with the style and affordability you deserve.

She picked out some cool and fun looks! My little one is too young for school, but I still definitely take advantage of all the great back to school sales :)
