This post and giveaway are being sponsored by Coupons.com but all thoughts are my own.
I’m one of those people who enjoys giving gifts much more than receiving them. I’m not a huge fan of surprises. And if I’m being honest here, I enjoy shopping for myself much more than others shopping for me. Put me at the computer with a credit card by my side and access to free shipping coupon codes and I’ll be a happy camper (really, what is better than getting all of your holiday shopping done without having to hassle with crowds OR shipping charges?).
But call me a holiday party-pooper when it comes to opening my own presents. I’ll sit back happily and watch the rest of the family open gifts as long as I’ve been able to buy myself a few things from my personal wish list while I’ve been out shopping for everyone else.
It’s difficult to look back on 39 birthdays and Christmases and Mother’s Days and Anniversaries and choose the one gift that could be called “the best gift I’ve ever received.” Those gifts that I buy myself don’t really count.
As I thought of my best gift ever, I recalled a conversation that I had this weekend over Thanksgiving dinner. As everyone was enjoying my homemade crescent rolls, my husband started raving about how I took my cooking skills to the next level after he gave me a KitchenAid stand mixer and a wheat grinder about 11 years ago.
I remember that Christmas well. After the holiday, I was talking with a few of my friends who were showing me the things that their husbands had given them for Christmas – necklaces and sweaters and spa treatments and CDs. When I told the girls that my husband had given me two kitchen appliances, they looked at me with sympathy and said “I’m sorry.”
I was surprised by their responses because I could not have been happier with my gifts, and I still get a ton of use out of them, 11 years later. Like my husband raved this weekend, those two gifts changed the way I cooked. With a KitchenAid mixer in my kitchen, I was confident to try new things. My breads and cookies and cakes turned out better than ever before. It was definitely one of the best gifts I’ve ever received.
What are some of the best gifts you’ve ever received…and do you take advantage of internet shopping and free shipping like me?

I’ve been wanting a KitchenAid for two years now. Maybe, just maybe, I’ll get one this year :)

I have always wanted a wheat grinder. My family got my kitchenaid mixer about 4 years ago for Christmas and I LOVE it. I agree with your hubby! It has taken my cooking skills up a notch!
