It’s time again for a new Writer’s Workshop sponsored and inspired by MamaKat. Have I mentioned that MamaKat is one of my favorite bloggers? This week’s choice of writing prompts were a lot of fun, but I knew as soon as I read it that I would have to chose this one:
1.) What was the first CD (or record or cassette) you ever purchased? Write about the way that particular album made you feel then. Write about how it makes you feel now.
Many of you may not know this about me. Most of you would never guess…..I was a rocker when I was younger. I loved me some long hair, tight pants, and steel guitar. When I was 13, the family down the street that I babysat for regularly gave me their used CD player when they upgraded to a new one. This was in the day that an external CD player that you hooked up to your stereo cost $500. I was in heaven! I quickly went to the music store to see which CDs I could purchase. Yikes! The CDs were $20 or more a pop, and I was not rolling in the money at 13. So I picked an older CD from my favorite band–Bon Jovi!
These days, I don’t follow Bon Jovi (although I am impressed by their longevity!) I DID take notice of the song that Jon sang with country singer Jennifer Nettles a few years ago. Loved it!
Listen to “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” here……
Rewind a few years….when I was still buying records. This is the first album that I ever bought myself. Heart.
We still lived in San Jose, so I had to be less than 11. I listened to this over and over again on my mom’s record player, often sporting enormous grey headphones, similar to the headphones below. I’m sure I looked stunning.
My favorite song from the album? “What About Love.” I can still sing the words to this song. Ahh, the good old days. Honestly, I don’t listen to much rock nowadays, but it still gets me going when I do.
