The Perfect Day

Monday, September 7, 2009 by Lolli Leave a Comment

The only thing that could have made last Thursday any better would have been a surprise visit from my mom. It was her birthday (and, yes, I did remember to call her to wish her a happy day). Instead of partying with Mom, which would have been ideal, Mom celebrated with Dad in Lake Tahoe and I celebrated at home with my sister and niece.

Surprisingly, when Andrea and I get together we rarely take many photos. I did happen to catch AJ and Chick playing with AJ’s new wooden bus. Ebeanstalk, a toy website dedicated to selecting good, safe educational toys and learning baby gifts, just sent us the Activity Bus from Plan Toys, who makes eco-friendly wooden toys.

There’s something I love about a good, wooden toy. It feels so timeless in my hands. This bus is the kind of toy that I can see my grandkids playing with 20 years from now.

Chick was having so much fun with the bus that I thought about letting her take it home. I even offered it to Andrea…but AJ overheard and protested. I guess giving his new toy away was not a good idea. Shame on you, Mom!

After letting the little kids play while Andrea and I chatted on the couch, we finished the school day (ie–the time of day when I only have one child to cart around!) with lunch at Chick-fil-A (we had the most fresh, amazing chicken ever. And their shakes are always the best) and then a fabulous trip to the used book store that I just discovered around the corner.

Discovering a used book store 10 minutes away from home is dangerous.

We made it home in time for the big kids to get home from school. The kids painted, played with Chick and did some homework while we waited for the pizza to get there. After pizza we squeezed in the van for a trip to Rita’s.

And since I didn’t take any pictures from this trip to Rita’s, here’s one of Chick and Reese on a previous visit.

See why it was a perfect day? If only I could hang out with my sister, shop, and eat fried chicken, milkshakes, pizza and Italian Ice everyday. Seriously, I don’t think I’d get tired of a schedule like that.

What am I going to do when she moves away next year??

I think I’ll cry. And then order some pizza and ice cream. We’re all about the food.
