Allergy-Friendly Living

Monday, June 6, 2011 by Lolli Leave a Comment

I wrote this post while participating in a blog tour conducted by Clever Girls Collective on behalf of Claritin®. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program.

When I was growing up in Northern California, I had the occasional itchy eye or fits of sneezing. But I never considered my allergies a problem until I moved to Oregon during my sophomore year of high school. The wet climate of the Pacific Northwest did not agree with me, and I spent the next few years sneezing and itching my eyes all Spring and Summer.

After high school, I left for college in Utah and my allergy problems disappeared again….only to return when I moved to the humid East Coast after graduation.

Sadly, the East Coast is where I’ve stayed for the past 13+ years, and my allergies have remained a problem since then, too. Every Spring, without fail, I can expect to endure months of itchy eyes and sneezing.

I’ve come to rely on allergy medicine to get me through the season with my sanity intact.

This season, Claritin is working with HGTV and Sabrina Soto to bring you tips for creating an allergy-friendly and beautiful home and garden. Thanks to her background as a designer, TV personality, and long-time allergy-sufferer, Sabrina has filled Claritin’s Facebook page with allergy and design tips for every section of your home and garden. Here are a couple that I liked:

Tip #3: You spend a third of your life snoozing so make sure your bedroom is allergy-friendly! An easy way to start is by choosing hypoallergenic fabrics for your bedding so you can start to rest easy.

Tip #13: Looking to add color to your garden, without adding new allergens? Gladiolas and peonies are good choices for low-allergy plants.

Here’s my own tip….
Lolli’s Tip: Once the pollen is prevalent, close the windows. There’s nothing worse than having pollen come in through the open windows and coat the entire house.

What are your tips for making your home allergy friendly? What did you learn from Sabrina’s tips on Facebook? Drop by my discussion on the Savvy Living BlogFrog Community to see other bloggers’ tips as well.

For tips on making your home and garden more beautiful, functional and allergy-friendly visit www.Facebook.com/Claritin. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do.
