I was thinking about what I should blog about today…..The fact that I can hardly keep my eyes open today because I keep staying up WAY TOO LATE? Or maybe I could document my trip to Costco with my friend, Safire, and the fun I had wearing one of her twins in a baby wrap that I gave her when they were born 7 months ago. (Side note–I picked up 200 family pictures today for our Christmas card. If you want a card, e-mail me with your address! It’s my blog’s name at gmail)
I have found that I have too much on my mind lately, and too much that I want to say (maybe I’ve been shy for too long and I need to get it OUT!). Who knows! At any rate, I stopped by Krista’s blog this afternoon and laughed at her post: Crazy? Or genius? She got the idea from a friend whose furnace broke and decided to save money on getting it fixed (plus the big winter gas bills) by using space heaters to heat his house. Crazy or genius? I’m leaning towards the CRAZY. The winter that KitKat was born, our little basement apartment was an ice box. Not good for a newborn OR a new mommy who spent most of her time half exposed from breastfeeding. We got a nice little space heater….and then we got a nice little utility bill which was TRIPLE what we normally payed for that time of year. No more space heater. :(
Then Krista told her brilliant idea. I can totally relate to her feelings regarding spoon feeding a baby. Oh! I am SO glad to be done with that stage. I loved breastfeeding, but I could not STAND feeding babies goopy baby food. Yuck. It’s a mess and it takes a lot of time! So back to Krista….her hubby taught their 2 year old to feed her baby sister. Krista was skeptical at first, but then she gave it a try…..While Kate fed Brooklyn, Krista got her hair and make-up done! Genius!
So here’s the first Crazy or Genius thing that came to MY mind: Exactly a year ago, PB finally lost all patience for getting his hair cut at a salon. His hair grows FAST. He needs his hair cut OFTEN. Like once a month. Most of the time, he waits too long–until he is shaggy. So last year, he came up with the idea that SOMEONE at home was going to learn how to cut his hair. I hesitated. A lot. I have lived with him 13 years and heard too many complaints about bad haircuts. I have cut little boys hair….but little boys are very forgiving. When I didn’t jump on the chance to be his personal barber, KitKat volunteered. I cringed the first time she took the clippers to his hair.
But somehow it worked (here’s a little secret–someone else, be it KitKat or PB himself, cuts most of the hair and then I finish it off, so that everything is even). I’m sure we’ve saved a bunch of money and it has certianly kept the length of his hair under control, but there’s still a part of me that thinks that this is CRAZY! Or is it genius? The home hair cut. If only I would get brave enough to have KitKat cut MY hair. OR maybe I should have PB do it!! I’m down to about twice a year haircuts because I’m so cheap and I always put it off. Maybe I’m on to something!
So I want to hear about YOUR crazy (or genius) ideas. I pass off the talking stick to YOU.
