Easy Enough for a Kid – Do-it-Yourself Soap Kit

Thursday, October 28, 2010 by Lolli 2 Comments

My girls have passed the age of playing with toys. Instead, they want to spend their time creating, exploring, watching, talking.

Recently, a small package came in the mail. Inside was a Make-Your-own strawberry scented soap kit. I set it aside because I needed to blog about it (which means that I needed to make the time to do the project with my girls and take pictures of the process.

No sooner had I set the kit aside than I found the box empty and the glittery pink soap shapes used up. My girls (ages 7 and 11) had opened the box up, read the instructions, and made the soaps. And then Reese and AJ jumped in the bath tub to try the soaps out. The instructions were so straight forward that they didn’t need to call for help (although the box clearly states “Adult Supervision Required”). While I was disappointed that I couldn’t document the process with my camera (or even with my personal experience!), I could tell by their enthusiastic description of making the soaps that they had loved it.

This is the third hands-on Science Kit that we’ve had a chance to review, and I’ve always been impressed with not only the easy-to-understand instructions, but also the extra facts and science tid-bits that are included in the kits. Not only are the fun, but they get my kids thinking.

Over nearly two decades, Scientific Explorer has earned a reputation for creating science activity kits unmatched in the specialty retail market. What’s our secret? We make science fun.

Shimmer Soap Kit

In this kit, you’ll find everything you need to make your own shimmer soap from scratch. You’ll learn some really cool science about matter. Plus it comes with four different molds to create different shapes. Soap is scented strawberry–yummy!

Includes soap base, pink dye and fragrance, glitter, soap mold, mixing cup, spatula and activity guide.

Note: I received the Shimmer Soap kit from Scientific Explorer/Giddyup through my association with Team Mom. The thoughts on the product are my own.

THis sounds awesome. DIY kits are always great for learning and spending time together. I wish my girls still had an interest in doing projects with me. they say they have enough school projects and papers and no time. :(
