Fight Cold, Cough, and Flu Season With #FloridaOJ

be well save well pamphlet SafewayYou might have heard me mention a time or two that we have been sick around here. Yes, I am getting over pneumonia, and although (thank goodness) no one else in the family has been quite as sick as I’ve been, the cold-cough-flu bugs have hit every single one of us this season.

It seems that everyone around here is sick, probably due to the crazy weather we’ve been having. Every week this Winter we’ve had at least one day with Spring-like weather. It has confused the plants, the animals, and the humans alike.

The other day, once I was feeling well enough to venture out of my house again, I headed over to Safeway (which is also home to my pharmacy and bank…love that store!) to do a very relevant shop with Collective Bias. My mission? Put together a cold, cough and flu kit inspired by Safeway pharmacy’s “Be Well. Save Well.” pamphlet.

Tips to stay healthy during cold and flu season

Be Active
Get fresh air regularly – you are more likely to succumb to viruses if you are indoors all the time. Also, regular exercise contributes to overall health.

Stay Clean
Wash hands and surfaces regularly. Don’t forget to clean phones and doorknobs, too, and use hand sanitizer or Clorox wipes when you go out shopping. Many stores have cart/hand wipes at the front of their stores.

Take a multi-vitamin
Vitamins supplement your diet and make sure that you’re getting everything necessary to support a healthy immune system.

Take a pro-biotic
Probiotics maintain healthy digestion and immune function.

Sleep well
You are more susceptible to viruses when your body is tired and run-down. Getting adequate sleep can not only help the body fight off illnesses, but sleep is extremely important in recovery as well.

Manage stress
More stress=more vulnerability to viruses. Reduce stress with relaxation techniques and getting enough rest (see above!).

Detect disease early
Get frequent check ups and visit your doctor when you start feeling sick.

Cold, cough and flu kit with 100% Florida Orange Juice

When I was a kid, my mom would load us up on orange juice at the first sign of a cold or cough. Now that I am a mom, orange juice plays a part in keeping my own family well during cold, cough and flu season. It is almost always in my fridge (as long as someone doesn’t get the last sip before I make it back to the store for more).

When I went to Safeway this week to put together a cold, cough and flu kit, I started out with two cartons of 100% Florida Orange Juice. I also checked out the “Be Well. Save Well.” pamphlet which was full of tips (like those tips for staying healthy above) as well as coupons for cold and flu-related items.

I stocked up on OJ, Kleenex, cough drops, and a few other essentials. You can see my entire shop on my #FloridaOJ Google+ story

And as a little bonus for you? Here’s a recipe included in the “Be Well. Save Well.” pamphlet for Spiced orange Green Tea. Feeling better already?
