On Sunday my family and I were able to participate in a disaster relief service project of an enormous and inspiring scale. Approximately 300 volunteers of all ages gathered for 3 hours to sort, fold, box, and label thousands of boxes of donated clothing to be shipped to the victims of Sandy.
We filled two large moving vans (the trucks, drivers, and thousands of boxes were donated by Paxton Van Lines).
It was an incredible day.
And, yes, we started sorting directly after a big church meeting…hence the nice clothes.

There were multiple rooms stacked ceiling-high with clothing donations, but the sorting was incredibly well-organized.

As a huge fan of the Jersey Shore, my heart broke watching Sandy tear through the area. What you and your family did is fabulous. xoxo

I’m a NJ resident, and I thank you even though I nor my family is in need. There are many in our area who are still suffering. When I drove home from my workshop tonight I passed areas of homes that are still without power. Thank you again.
That’s awesome that all of you were involved! Good cause, good lessons, good habit developer, good awareness factor, good bonding time… I could go on. :)
I love that everyone pitched in.
My daughter’s girl scout troop is having a bake sale and linen drive this Sunday at a local event. Part of the proceeds will go to help the local rescue mission and the rest will be sent to help out with NY/NJ disaster relief.
That is very inspiring!
That is pretty awesome of you! :)
I also posted about relief (although with a slightly different twist), and have some great links to charities and ways we can all help. Feel free to visit and spread the links. Have a great week and thanks for hosting. My post is: https://departingthetext.blogspot.com/2012/11/raising-consciousness-and-respect-pre.html
What a great thing to do!
Love that you did this. More communities need to remember love needs to be put into action
What incredible kindness! I am sure the people of NJ/NY will appreciate your efforts and generosity immensely.
That’s SO amazing! I’m here in NJ and we were very lucky to not be severely affected like others.
What a great project to involve your family in!
That is sooo awesome! Love it.
