I decided last month that I would do something for myself on my birthday….I didn’t feel like leaving the day up to fate. The first thing I did was to set up a little birthday lunch with a few friends. Yum! What a treat! I went into lunch with a headache (from a combination of not eating enough for breakfast and getting popped in the jaw when Reese bounced off the couch before she left for school)…but I left the get together feeling refreshed. Karen treated us to grilled chicken, a green salad with balsamic vinagarette and pine nuts, and bread. All I can say is, there’s nothing like good friends, and I am greatful to have several.
I let the family know that I’d rather go to Red Robin for dinner than cook. Red Robin is our old stand-by. Always fast, always good, and loud enough that our big group doesn’t cause too huge of a scene. Tonight, the service was SLOW, I got really sick after dinner (although it did taste good going down!), and our group more-than-doubled when some of our best friends showed up right after we did. Instead of being a family of 7, we were a group of 16. Probably not too common for a Monday night.
Candyman specifically requested a birthday wish-list from me….I just wasn’t expecting him to get me so much! I got a new hand mixer (I burned out the motor on my old one a few months ago), a docking station for my new iPod, so that I can hook it up to the stereo, a Kitchen Aid blender (we make tons of smoothies and have about run our 12-year-old blender to the ground), and some candy (I can always count on that!). KitKat made me spice cake cupcakes with cream cheese frosting (and I even managed to eat one despite my stomach after dinner!)
