Heading to New York City with Disney/Dreamworks

Saturday, December 3, 2011 by Lolli 3 Comments

I’m packed and (almost) ready to go.

You know the feeling that you get when you are about to embark on something REALLY exciting?

That’s how I’m feeling right now.

Today I am getting on a train and heading to New York City where I will spend the next three days with Disney/Dreamworks and a small group of bloggers for a weekend jam-packed with the kind of activities only Disney and Dreamworks could dream up.

Blogging professionally (and getting a great job as the managing editor of 5 Minutes for Mom) has been a lot of work. Anyone who thinks I don’t work for this hasn’t seen me up at midnight writing away. But the perks are incredible. I never would have imagined that I would be heading out for an exciting (dare I say glamorous??) weekend in NYC.

Here’s what we’ve got on the agenda:

  • DreamWorks Pictures’ WAR HORSE Red Carpet Premiere & After Party
  •

  • Mary Poppins on Broadway (This will be my very first Broadway show!)
  •

  • Advance screening of Beauty and the Beast in 3D
  •

  • Private Tour of the New Amsterdam Theatre (home of Mary Poppins on Broadway)
  •

  • Interview with Steve Fickinger, VP of Creative Development and Licensing (Mary Poppins and Newsies on Broadway)
  •

  • Interview with Academy Award nominee, Emily Watson (“Rose Narracott” in War Horse)

Of course, I will be taking my camera and will be reporting back about the shows, the interviews, and the simple magic of being in New York City during the Holidays. But until then, here’s a little preview of what I’ve got in store:

About War Horse

DreamWorks Pictures’ “War Horse,” director Steven Spielberg’s epic adventure, is a tale of loyalty, hope and tenacity set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War.

  • Cast: Emily Watson, David Thewlis, Peter Mullan, Niels Arestrup, Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irvine, Benedict Cumberbatch, Toby Kebbell
  • Director: Steven Spielberg
  • Opening in theaters: December 25, 2011
  • Rated PG-13
  • On Facebook: facebook.com/WarHorseMovie

About Mary Poppins – The Musical

MARY POPPINS has astonished over 8 millions people with its own brand of pure Broadway magic.

Featuring the irresistible story and unforgettable songs from one of the most popular Disney films of all time, plus brand-new breathtaking dance numbers and spectacular stage-craft, MARY POPPINS is everything you could ever want in a hit Broadway show!

  • Now in it’s 5th successful year on Broadway!
  • Mary Poppins official website: MaryPoppins.com
  • Mary Poppins – The Musical on Facebook: facebook.com/MaryPoppins

About Beauty and the Beast 3D

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ magical classic “Beauty and the Beast” returns to the big screen in Disney Digital 3D, introducing a whole new generation to the Disney classic with stunning new 3D imagery.

  • Opening in theaters: January 12, 2012
  • Rated: G
  • Beauty and the Beast 3D on Facebook: facebook.com/DisneyBeautyAndTheBeast

Disclosure: Disney/Dreamworks is sending me to NYC to see these shows, but the excitement and opinions are my own.
