Anybody else know that song from Veggie Tales (Madame Blueberry)? I couldn’t help but sing it in my head after picking blueberries today with the kids and some of our friends.
The blueberries this year were even better than last year. Yum! Amazing! But…it was HOT. I didn’t think it was so hot when we left, but somehow once we got down to the blueberry bushes, we were all sweating. Oh, but it was worth it!
Apple was thrilled that we had to ride a covered wagon (not the pioneer kind) to get to the blueberry fields.
At first, everyone (except Taco) was eagerly and happily picking.
The blueberries were so ripe that they just fell off into our hands.
Taco refused to pick with us because blueberries are “so disgusting!” He waited patiently on the side….Um, well, he complained a little…
Apple was a good helper for quite a while…
But then he got an attitude and attempted (often successfully) to dump out all of the blueberries that we’d picked. So I got to double-pick! Once from the bushes, and once from the grass! And all while holding my friend’s baby and trying to keep Apple from either destroying anything else or hurting any innocent passers-by.
In the end, after all of our sweat and tears, we ended up with almost 12 lbs of blueberries and a fun family picture (it’s so nice to go places with friends who can take pictures of ME, too!). Hmmm…other than our typical fruit smoothies, I think I’ll be cooking some blueberry muffins and maybe some blueberry cobbler for dessert. Double yum!
