It Never Goes Away (+ a Giveaway!)

Tuesday, July 14, 2009 by Lolli Leave a Comment

**CONTEST CLOSED! Winners are Pati, Alyssa, Shauna, GAhome2mom, and BlazeandCrochet! And, just FYI–the first comment was one of the winners!

I used to have a laundry day. It’s a good plan, don’t you think, to consolidate your laundry to one day of the week? I long for the days when I could do that. These days, if I wait two days between between doing loads of laundry, I’m in big trouble.

Especially when it comes to Twizzler. Meet my picky 8 year old son. He’s picky when it comes to food, and believe it or not, he’s even picker when it comes to clothes. Food MUST be covered in ketchup (or syrup or chocolate sauce) and clothes MUST be soft, loose (but not too loose) and just the right fit. I can’t seem to keep up with him. He wears his favorite clothes to the ground, and all of the “nice” things I buy for him remain in the bottom of his drawer, untouched. (oh, and did I mention that he likes ketchup….and red?)

When I fall behind on my laundry duties, he doesn’t dip into the supply of perfectly good clothes in his drawer. No–he wants the tried and true favorites. The dirty ones.

Better catch up, Mom!

Really, I have come to the conclusion that I must do laundry every day, even if it’s one load. I take Sunday off (although, honestly–SHH!–I sometimes have to run a load even on Sunday to do that emergency load of gym shorts for middle school P.E. or the stinky beach towel for camp).

I have been wondering how I could possibly make the process easier. And how I could avoid spending 50% of my waking time cleaning, folding, and putting away laundry.

I came up with a few things that have helped us:

–The kids are responsible for putting their dirty clothes in a basket in their room and for periodically emptying that basket in the laundry room or the main basket in the bathroom.

–The kids have the job of sorting the laundry into piles–one for each person, one for towels, and one for socks (that’s 9 piles!).

–The kids then fold and put away their own laundry. Most of the time, I do most of Reese and AJ’s laundry.

–I watch a movie while I fold the rest. Folding usually happens twice a week. Yes, I wait til it’s piled up before I fold. Hanging things get hung as soon as they come out f the dryer, though.

–The folded laundry sits in my room until I desperately need to use the laundry basket again.

Ok–I really need to work on that last step. But I feel like the process has gotten better. The sad thing is, the bigger my kids get, the bigger my piles of laundry will be. It never goes away. Until THEY go away.

But I don’t want to go there.

So let’s talk about something more pleasant. What about free laundry detergent? How does that sound?

Recently, I received a 45.4 oz bottle of Sun Burst laundry detergent from Sun and Mom select. Anything to make my laundry experience easier and cheaper is a good thing for me. I got the Clean and Fresh scent and was very pleased with the smell, but a little worried about my husband’s sensitive nose. I decided to try a load and not say anything. I called it a definite success–he didn’t say anything (he doesn’t want his clothes to smell like anything, just to smell clean) with that first load or any of the next 28 loads. Yes, this 45.4 oz bottle cleans 29 loads of laundry….and better, still? It only costs around $3.00. I can live with that.

Along with the bottle of detergent, Sun and Mom Select also sent 5 coupons for a free 45.4 oz bottle or a 49 oz powder box to give away.

Would you like to try some Sun? Just tell me your best laundry tip–it could be a tip about how you tackle your laundry every week or how you tackle stains. FIVE (5!) commenters will get a coupon for a free bottle or box of detergent.

If you’d like extra entries, you can subscribe to my blog, follow me, stumble or kirtsy me, or tweet about the give away. Just make sure that each entry is a separate comment.

This giveaway will end on Thursday, July 23 at 10:00 PM Eastern time. I will email the winners the next day and post them at the top of this post.
